Lockerbie bomber to be released

First instance of foreign policy involving the US that hasn't been dictated to us for about three decades. It's about as much of a spine bone as you'll see.

Have to agree, the US should really keep their nose out. Britain doesn't go poking around in their business when it's their trial. US just trying to be bullies again =/

Lockerbie cover-up

Mr Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, the only man convicted of the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 in December 1988 is to be released, on compassionate grounds, following the withdrawl of his appeal against conviction.

As a result, there will be no discussion in court in relation to serious questions connected with the original conviction.

It would seem that, in one respect at least, the interests of the United Kingdom government and security services have already been served by the ending of the Megrahi appeal. London does not want the disclosure of further documents relating to the case, as demanded by Megrahi's legal team.

How about the United States? Just as with London, it is conceivable that there are interests in Washington who welcome the final closure of the case, the ending of the appeal. - http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/briantaylor/2009/08/who_benefits_from_release.html

No, it's just the US thinking they rule the planet once again.

Bunch of tards.

Cover up.

He probably wasn't involved in blowing up the plane and the US & UK Governments knew that and want an end to the whole issue.

It is highly likely that Pan Am flight 103 was blown up at the behest of Iran as an act of revenge for the USS Vincennes shooting down a civilian airliner.

Will there now be an enquiry? I very much doubt it

Shame the decision to release Al-Megrahi has nothing to do with London and everything to do with Edinburgh. It's an issue for Scots law, not English.

I had to laugh at Hilary Clinton stepping up to support keeping him imprisoned. She probably got told if she did that people would like her.

Oh just kill him. He's been proven guilty already. Mass murderer! Why the heck people waste so much time and money over something so trivial I don't know. Compansionate grounds because he's terminaly ill or whatever... pfft.

Honestlty if they had just but a bullet to his head or left him to rot (actually serving his sentance) then this whole fiasco would never have arrisen. Stupid puff filled modern society. Bring back and rectify the old system I say.

Right decision nobody could ever say he did it, a lot of politics went on, plus he is dieing anyway and isn't it better to show compassion to a terrorists, sends out a signal that we are not that evil after all.

How old? One where if a women looked at a man funny he could call her a witch and burn her at the stake?
