Lockerbie bomber to be released

its funny, the US and English Government wanted him to rot and die in jail, but according to Kenny Macaskill, he told them that if they want him to stay in jail they must come forward with evidence to support their claim, and he said neither did.

If Obama and Hilary had phoned me to plead that we let him die in jail i would have released him on that alone, and hung up on Obama with the fine scottish words:

GET IT UP YE BARRY!!

(FYI, Obamas real name is Barry Soetero...http://www.obamacrimes.com)

why he is going to die anyway, why should he care. if i was him i would expose
everyone

he probably doesn't know anything worth telling anybody

I , like many others, believe he was just a fallguy and his statement makes me think it even more, albeit could be a clever ploy

Guilty or not, a dying mans family deserves to see their terminal loved one. Not letting this man go home to his family would be as hypocritical as blowing up a plane....

How can we depriev this mans family of that when the same has already happened to 400 other peoples loved one?

Just curious, but why do so many people believe him innocent when he's been found guilty after a fair trial under Scots law?

Is this the usual sort of conspiracy theory, based on perceived geopolitical motives (i.e. Libya wanted to become friends with US/GB but couldn't while no-one was punished for Lockerbie, so they created a fall guy), or is this belief based on any sort of evidence?

He was seeing his family regularly as they had a nice Luxury pad in Newton Mearns on the outskirts of glasgow to live in funded by the libyan government just like his full sky package and other luxuries he had while in "prison" He was also not in solatarty confinement and migled freely with the other inmates who he had a good rapore with mainly coz he had full sky package for one.

He was found guilty he remains guilty also as he never went through with his appeal. Kenny MacAskil will forever be known now as the man who set the largest mass murdered ever known in Scotland free.

I have no opinion on the matter as I don't know the full facts; but I do think the fact that the trial was questionable brings reasonable doubt.

It may well be a conspiracy but not of the tin-foil hat type . . .

I suspect that it might be because so many people don't actually believe that he received a fair trial under Scots law. You will find that some of the parents whose children died are not entirely convinced that he is guilty.

You might like to read Private Eye's 'Lockerbie: Flight from Justice' report by Paul Foot at http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/62031/private-eye-lockerbie-report.pdf, look at http://www.lockerbie-disaster.org.uk/ and read some of the posts in this thread and then perhaps ask a somewhat more informed question.

See above ;)

Fair enough, lock the Don't swear. FF. back up. Why did we free him? What will anybody gaim from this?

and I for one will praise him for it - never thought any British politician would have the balls to do what he did and frankly kudos to him for doing it. The chap was found guilty by Scots Law and it's Scots Law that's let him go home to die with his family. The americans knew this was a possibility, now they're just spitting the dummy because they didn't stamp their foot loud enough - how dare another country not comply with their demands.

Any chance of a summary for those who cba reading 34 pages ;)

Why was it questionable? It may seem slightly strange to us in England and Wales, but it was perfectly legal under Scots law.

The only good that comes from it is that our NHS wont have to treati him while he dies.

I'm still wowed that they stood up to American pressure on this. And although no direct link, the Americans are overlooking the fact that they were heavily involved in brokering the deal that let scores of nationalist and loyalist terrorists back on to the streets of Ireland.

For starters, because another country's government demanded it was done without a jury which is an unusual move designed to get the desired result regardless of fact.

Also, a second suspect walked because he couldn't be convicted on the same evidence. Evidence that inextricably linked the two but was only good enough to convict one.

Many other reasons. Diplomacy will bury this one forever.
