Lockpicking

Do your windows have locks? they will be the easiest.
Yeah they do, although I've also got a safe and a few small things with locks on, which I was planning on trying first. Might give the windows a shot though.

Ok, i'm just getting started with this whole lockpicking thing, but i'm guessing that a safe is possibly one of the hardest things to crack......ever.

It isn't a high quality one, and it came with a key, and the key looks fairly simple. So I don't think it's anything like the ones in banks or anything, so not too tricky I should think :p

thats how i learned

just goes to show that video games can make you a criminal
Knowing how to lockpick doesn't make you a criminal. It's how you choose to apply the skill that determines whether it is illegal or not.

Off topic: You have the best sig ever :D

You just cant pick all locks, a good mortise will be very hard these have to be drilled in the correct postions, euro barrels are easy though they just snap

Bumpkeys scare the hell out of me. It took me about 45 minutes to file a bumpkey that could open my own front door, my mothers front door and 2 other locks around her house. Just be responsible really. Personally I would love to be able to pick locks, and I have the right type of interest and intricate skill, but for one reason and another (being lazy and spending too much time posting on forums etcetera) I have never put the time in. A nice skill to learn.

Thats easy mate.
We just got back from Florida this week and experienced some oddity in the hire car we had which locked the doors with our 16 month old daughter inside.
Luckily a guy with a phone helped us out with a company called pop-a-lock that he had seen on TV.

Guy turned up. Two rubber wedges in the door frame. A ruler with a looped bit of string on it through the gap.
Literally 5 seconds from start to finish. I was shocked how easy it was TBH and left not a mark on the car.

The RAC in England do that man :p

Except on mine he took about 20 minutes to hook the door pin. I think he had Parkinson's or something :(

He had to bend my door back slightly as well to get it to shut true.

Big thread bump, but anyone else who does this for fun ?

I just ordered a lock picking set and a clear see through padlock to practice. Anyone know any good tutorial websites/video's :D ?

If you're near any hacker spaces, they usually have lock picking nights.

TOG in Dublin have an active lock pickers community. Belfast's Farset Labs doesn't seem interested in it, so I'm not driving all the way down to Dublin for it.

Look here for a list of hackerspaces: https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/List_of_Hacker_Spaces, find one near you and then check their site to see if they hold any workshops.

One of my friends is a locksmith by trade - makes a tidy profit from it very easily and run's his own company with very very good contarcts from council, police etc :)

Something I'm thinking of having a look into - purely from the business side it's very lucrative and is a dieing trade

I once had to call out a locksmith as I'd lost my car keys, chap came out in a brand spanking Merc van with all the kit and tools, charged me £350 for around 5 mins work.

Was very impressed, his call out fee alone was more than my weekly wage back then.

Suppose if it is a dying trade the money must still be there for people to earn a living?

Sorry I'll re word Josh - I meant as in a lot of people aren't getting into it from a legitamate side. The skill base is reducing all the time - Heck the last person my mate employed was from Germany, he couldn't find anyone in the UK who wasn't already doing the role. And it looks like apprenticships are often un filled for it aswell.
