Ok,

So I'm trying to login to BF2142 with my old BF2 account, which logic tells me should work...WRONG! Apparrently I have to create a new ea.com account to be able to play, fine, not letting me do that either. Try to register on the ea.com website and I have to either let EA bombard me with their propaganda or send all my details to 3rd parties!

WTF! All I wanna do is play the sodding game!

Is there any way to play this game without subjecting yourself to loads of ads!?!

In a word, no. If you hadn't been living under a rock on Mars with your fingers in your ears though*, you would have joined a great many of us in boycotting this product. :p ;)

Long story short: You have to agree to in-game ad support etc. or your only other option is not to install the game, it says it on the leaflet and everything in big letters. :( Surely it wouldn't have killed them to add an option to turn it off, but I guess they want to milk us for advertising revenue instead.

*This was not intended as an insult, it was light-hearted dig at the worst. You deserved it though. :p

I moved back to my house on earth and took it back to the shop :D

OMFG EA ARE SPAMMING ME!!!111

Seriously... its freaky. The server was messed up today when i was trying to login and for every time i tried to login it sent me 10 of those... so i got a LOT!

You can block the adverts though, you just have to port-block the series of ports for which adverts are sent. Personally I have no issues with it and I think people are making a mountain out of a molehill.

I don't mind seeing adverts, I think it's quite interesting and enjoyable to see real things on billboards etc..

TBH I haven't noticed any ads yet.
I'm usually to busy trying to spot the bad guys before they see me. ;)

Good man. ;) The only way to send them a message is not to buy it.
Well I don't mind advertising in my games if it means I get a cheaper product, after all, I can still choose not to look at the adverts.
When you consider that XBox 360 games retail at £49.99 and you could pick up a copy of BF2142 for £19.99, don't you think that this in part could be the projected advertising revenue offsetting the price?
Frankly I'm all for it when there's that much saving involved.

You think it saves you money having advertising in an EA game?

We are talking about EA here!

Don't worry mate, we share exactly the same viewpoint. The thing is though that the game isn't any cheaper thanks to the advertising, so I don't want advertising in it. There's nothing I can do to stop them putting advertising in it, so I simply won't buy it instead and EA can be proud that they've encouraged me to spend my money on someone elses game.

Just makes me feel like they're trying to milk me for all I have and use me as a tool to make even more money by making me look at their ads. I draw the line when a company starts openly treating their customers like cash machines.

As for the price of Battlefield 2142 it is sure as hell not £19.99, if it was then I wouldn't be complaining. It launched at nearly £30 (I think someone said £27.99 exactly) which is the same I paid for Battlefield 2 when that launched and that game had no mandatory ads.

With ads Battlefield 2 should have launched for a decent amount less, even if it was only £24.99 or something.

It was available for £19.99 on pre-order from one retailer, I myself got one from them at that price.
You should have shopped around! ;)

Nah, I decided even before this adware stuff that I wasn't buying it. It's practically a mod. :p

The adware was just the icing on the cake.

If one retailer did it for £19.99 pre-order, it's a one off.
