Logitech Harmony question

Just got my 600 in the post, but can't seem to find out if my exact need can be met.

The devices I will control:

Panny Plasma
Xbox
LED array
Microlab speakers

Now I know I can load the Microlab straight in as it's on the Logitech website, and that I will need to manually add my LED array controls, but can you mix and match profiles?

I want to load all the controls of my plasma, apart from the volume, which I want to operate the volume of my Microlabs. This means I don't need to switch between devices to control the tv and volume.

Can I load the whole tv remote on the the harmony, then replace the volume controls for that of the Microlabs?

Thanks

You only need to teach the harmony the commands that it can't find on its own.
That's the easy part. You should be able to set it up exactly as you want, as long as all your devices are IR.....but it does take some time and amending.
I constantly forget how to do a certain thing when trying to set my ONE up, but with patience it comes to you.
Pretty sure you'll be able to do what you want.

Yeah, I know I can load a profile for my tv remote, and a profile for the speakers, but I want them to exist on the remote as a single merged profile, just swapping the tb volume up, down and mute for those of the speakers.

Will have a play tonight!

That is exactly what the activites on a harmony are for!

For example my Watch TV activity gives me controls for the volume on the TV, the channels and numbers and transport controls for the PVR and also allows me to setup my controls for my x10 light controller.

They're really simple to setup!

Well for most things I override the volume control and make it learn the commands for my amp remote. I hardly ever use the TV for sound so it works best.

You can override any command you want with any remote but you'll probably have to manually add it :)

If you've added your amp to the remote, then when you are setting up your activities, select your amp as the device for sound/volume and it'll automatically set your amp volume controls to the volume buttons, there should be no need to manually override anything.

What happens when your amp has settings not present on a normal tv remote?

Mine has treble and bass increase/decrease and a 'select source' option, the latter being something I don't need to use.

When you have the activity window open (play, stop, etc) you can set up the star icon to give access to the amp specifics like bass, treble, etc. I even have the TV volume setup there, so when the amp is on I can turn down the TV volume, but the physical volume buttons on the remote still control the amp.

I don't use activities at all, to be honest I've never really played with them, had it years maybe I should see how to use them :)

They're pretty cool. My Play Bluray activity for example:

1. Select AV1 on TV
2. Turn on AMP
3. Select Bluray Channel on amp
4. Turn on Bluray
5. Present play, pause, stop screen (activity screen).

You can also set up other things like selecting the sound profile. The power button on the harmony then powers off the three appliancies too.

Add them as additional commands which are accessed via the sbuttons next to the screen at the top of the remote.

Then you are pretty much completely missing the point of the harmony remotes.

The devices section is only really intended to be a storage area for the commands of each device.

The activities are the working area of the remote, if setup up correctly, every command you could possibly need will be contained in the activity, either via mapped physical buttons, or accessed via the addtional commands buttons either on or by the screen at the top of the remote.

They really couldn't be easier, a single button press to get your entire system ready and working for whatever you want. For example a single press turns on my tv, my amp and my blu-ray player, switches the tv to HDMI1, the Amp to dvd, mutes the tv so I'm only getting audio from the amp.

Once done, which takes a matter of a few seconds (much quicker than you could do by switching from device to device) the physical buttons control all the things I need, volume on the amp, the transport buttons do everything on the blu-ray player, number buttons also control the blu-ray player. Then on the touch screen I have all the extra commands I couuld want, speaker channel levels etc, along with the controls for my x10 controller so I can directly turn on and off my lights and dim them etc.

When Im done, one button press switches everything off...lovely!

Really do have a look at activities, it's the reason the remotes are so good!

That worked so easily!

I love how it automatically assumed I would be using the speakers instead of the tv for audio when I added the devices. LED array went in without a hitch too!

....wait till you start working with 'sequences'.....there's some fun to be had there. :D

As valve said the Harmonies have got a good rep almost purely down to the 'activities'....they're brilliant.
If you invest enough time and patience in setting it all up, they'll all but make you a cuppa.

for my 'watch movie' activity:
1. turn tv off
2. Turn Projector on
3. Onkyo amp on
4. turn BD player on
5. Select DVD/BD input on Onkyo
6. set volume on Onkyo to 35
...all from the touch of one button on my HarmonyONE remote.

I used to have it open the disc tray for me, but i now watch movies across my network so i binned that command.

When i had my WDTV Live connected, i created a sequence that would correspond to the press of the arrow buttons that were required to get to my movies share on the network, ie
left, left, right, down, left, left, up, select
You have to experiment with delays (in ms) between each command to get the best performance, but as i said, with patience you can have it doing almost anything.
