Logitech Z680 - spdif output cable ?

With DVD's, I'm not sure if creative cards can decode the DD/DTS stream on the DVD, and pipe it through the analog outputs in multi-channel. If not, you would need to purchase a flexi-jack adaptor, and an optical/coax cable.

They can indeed, though you'd need support from your DVD decoding software.

Hi,

The HDA cards you mention (x-mystique and x-plosion ) are both on special this week ( OCUK )

They are both 7.1 cards , I assume they will handle 5.1 the same ?

(As the Logitech Z 680 is 5.1 )

Which of the 2 would you recommend (primarly for gaming and music) ?

Cheers,

Mark

Yes, both cards will handle 5.1 DD the same.

Apparently the X-Mystique software forgets settings when you reboot, but this can be worked around with registry tweaks.

I didn't realise the X-Plosion was on special this week! I'm more tempted by that card now, even though I don't have a 7.1 setup. The DTS encoding may sound better than DD (doubtful, when its upmixing from compressed ingame audio), and I'd be futureproofed for when I eventually upgrade my receiver to something that supports 7.1.

So would you say that the cheaper 1 of the 2 explosion cards are better then the creative? or what sound card would you guys recommend for the best sound quality, for about £50

I might buy it tomorrow, then i'll be all ready for when I get my z680 or z5500

The 7.1 card will of course be able to use 5.1 speakers too. It all depends on the price and your budget as to whether you go for the x-plosino of x-mystique is the card for you. For all these digital speakers I would highly recommend the DD live/DTS encoding cards. My soundstorm is brilliant, so I can only assume the separate cards a much better.

My aging sony 5.1 av receiver and speakers for the time being.

Looking to upgrade when I can afford it, as I doubt the receiver is capable of decoding anything outside of bog standard DD or DTS, but its more than powerful enough to shake the house and send the neighbours (and the police) knocking on the door. Have had the local council posting me notices of noise pollution on two occasions too :s But then, I have picky neighbours that complain at anything. I don't complain at them when they have drunken parties involving a karaoke machine!

So when I get my speaker system and connect it digitally,, all games, music ect, all the speakers will work, the same as analog connection,,,, is that right guys??

I got the card today, and the sub socket is still not working properly..When the "bass enhacment on", there hardly any bass at all, and when the software tests the sub, its just a fant bump. and when I turn the bass enhacemnt off, the subwoffer test works, saying subwoofer when it comes to the sub.. But there no sub at all in games and music. with the bass enachment turned off. I havent no more ideas how to fix this accept to get a new motherboard,, I've even tried windows xp fresh installed, but still its the same, and the card dont seem to be conflicting at all......

Any ideas guys......please????????

is it connected digitally? if it is then the only reason your not getting a proper sub output would be down to the speakers, not anything in the pc.

If your connected via analogue, then i dunno. it could be the soundcard since they dont have proper .1 management in *** control panel.

Happens to me as well, you just have to keep playing round with the settings until it finally works.

I wish they would get their arses in gear and sort these driver bugs out.

Im using analog connection atm, cos havent got the speakers yet. How did you mange to sort your problem out phil99? Basically theres no point in me getting the speakers untill ive sorted the sub prob out.

Ive been through all the options but it still wont work. I really think its something todo with the motherboard cos the onboard sound sub dont work properly,, and to be honnest this new card is worse then the onboard sound with the sub prob. I feel like thowing the dam pc out of the window

I'll be honest, i've never has an analogue setup work the way i want it to regarding the sub output. music was fine in two channel if you have two full range speakers up front because there is no LFE (this goes for my HDA card as well as any onboard sound ive tried) few games worked with the sub. Im ok though, because i just drive my amp with a PCM 2 channel signal for music, or 5.1DD for games and let the amp handle the Subwoofer crossover. Your speakers should do the same thing

I just kept switching bass enhancement on/off and enabling/disabling DDLive and it would sometimes stick, others I'd need to reinstall the drivers, very frustrating.
