LOL

Then say something like this

Playstation 3 BOX Playstation 3 console IS NOT INCLUDED.

Exactly. The seller quite obviously wants to rake in the cash, regardless of if he really just wants to get rid of a box. Still, whoever thinks it's a PS3 is pretty low in the IQ department.

I feel really sorry for him/her :(

I've been scammed but not in the same way.. though the signs that the seller was a scammer was right there i missed them all.. how stupid did i feel..

If they aren't trying to scam then why is it listed under Video Games > Consoles & Systems > Sony PlayStation 3 rather than Business, Office & Industrial> Packing & Posting Supplies> Boxes?

Because the latter isn't anything close to it apart from it just being a box?

If I was looking to buy a PS3 box I'd look in PS3 stuff....

No way the buyer paid for it. From the time it took the auction to end and the feedback to be left was 3 hours, not even a speed courier is that quick! Good on the buyer imho, even if the feedback is taken away I'm sure it will teach the seller a quick lesson with trying to get it taken off and the fees back.

auction title : playstation 3 60gb box
end part of description: This is a ps3 box only

I don't see what's difficult to understand.

LOL I can't believe people are genuinely trying to defend the seller. Yes he's stated the facts and it SHOULD be obvious to most people that you are just getting the 'packaging'....but he's clearly relying on someone making a mistake.

Just look at how he's laid out the description, with several blank lines seperating each sentence, so that the 'This is a ps3 box only' bit is quite far down.

If it wasn't an attempt at catching a careless bidder out, then it would have been made far more obvious that 'PS3 is NOT included'

It's not so much 'defend the seller' from me, it's 'attack any buyers'.

I would never feel sorry for someone bidding for something without fully reading its description.

I feel much the same - I don't really have much sympathy for a buyer who buys without reading properly....but likewise I don't really have any sympathy for a seller who's 'scam' auction is ruined by a fake bidder

You're right. No scam is taking place, just clever marketing ;)

I'd question how 'clever' it is to create an auction that is so likely to be considered a 'scam' - that it will almost certainly be ruined by a fake bidder (as looks to have happened in this case) - and leave them with the hassle of relisting.... :p

I would blame a scammer as much as the scammee but in this case I don't think there's any scamming going on

It's a legal scam, the seller is clearly trying to trick the buyer into thinking it's an actual console whilst covering himself with the smallprint.

ebay ad says PS3 60gb box, PS3 box only, there's a picture of a box, not really a scam is it? There are ones out there which disguise themselves as scam, no disguise here

A scam doesn't have to be illegal, or even involve telling a lie.

This is a scam because the seller is hoping that someone will think they are buying a PS3. It's not a particularly good scam, because you'd have to be pretty foolish to fall for it, but none the less it looks very much like a scam to me.

Unless you are trying to suggest that it is agenuine attempt to sell the box (to someone who wants to buy just the box)?

It is obvious to almost everyone that this is a scam yet there are people saying "good luck to him", the buyer should read more carefully etc.

Instead of defending the seller with comments like "some people really do want to buy the box" etc or even taking the **** out of the buyer, all you 'oh so smart' people should be reporting it and trying to make the site work as it was intended: If it were somewhat more subtle and you got caught, you'd be the first one screeming " I've been scammed"!!

As a similar example; do you laugh and point out how stupid pensioners are when they get their life savings stolen by some **** who managed to con their way in?

What goes around ......

Yeah there was a case in "judge judy" where a ebay scammer was selling "photos of mobile phones" for $250. At least JJ threw the book at the seller.
