Pretty sure it's more to do with leeching other people's bandwidth

They're a lot of work, unpaid work, give them a break. You have to assume a hotlinked image is something horrible because there's a chance the owner will get annoyed and change the picture it links to.

Could you imagine going through the GF thread every day checking none of the pictures have changed?? (okay, maybe some of your do, but that's none of my business ).
