Long Awaited Build

We dont have any blank discs in our house...
I have a few gaming ones I could potentially use, how easy is it to remove everything from a disc like that?

Also I have scanned both the OS and USB for viruses, malware etc, and the OS comes direct from Windows not a seperate download site.

If you can afford to RMA the HDD surely you can afford some blanks DVDs from here. Exploit your free P&P the prices you get here for media will be much cheaper than at a local retail store ;)

Buy me!!

I have no idea what you mean by gaming DVDs.....that makes no sense at all :/

Doubtful they would have enough storage though? Also it would cost at least £30 on fuel bills to do so :p

Im looking on some online stores but I am confused by all the different types and which will and will not work.

EDIT: Hono I mean games, you know discs that have games on. Like a BF3 disc or in my case a Total war disc.
And I dont get free P&P until the 21st i think :p

What are you on about? You can't wipe a retail DVD

You can buy DVD-R,DVD+R. They are single use basically, then you have DVD-RW which are rewritable. DVD+R DL means they are dual layer and have a highr capacity (8.5 GB rather than 4.7GB).

I use Verbatim disks as they are good, I avoid cheapo brands. I already linked what you need, if you don't trust my advice i might just stop posting :P

Little update based on my post here earlier, I have now removed the two back plates behind the empty 5.25" slots so will see, maybe it has improved the airflow :)

Hmmm ok now I am confused.

As I have been saying the OS wont load properly either from or onto the HDD, but it can start-up fine from a USB.
This lead me to think the HDD might be faulty in some way or the OS is corrupted / USB drive isnt working properly.

However I just recently put the Gigabyte motherboard driver CD in and it works fine up to the point something needs to be backupped onto the HDD, then it fails and error comes up saying something like "Not enough space on HDD" however I have well over 400 GB of space.

So is this a HDD fault in which case I can return it to Overclockers or something else?

I already have check the first page :D

Also I have a bit of a problem with my USB stick. Its registering as having no capacity, 0 MB of data on it and 0 MB of space remaining. It wont format either. Anyone know what may cause that problem?

Im not going to lie im getting fed up of this :(

You thought the HDD was duff!! This post is pointless :/ All you have done is read my advice earlier and reword it to sound like you thought up the probable causes yourself......not cool.

I've already told you what to do. Get some DVDs and burn the UltimateBootcd to disk. You can then test the HDD with the diagnostic software. If the HDD comes back ok, then burn the ISO of windows to the DVD and boot using that to do the install.

If the HDD is faulty then you can return it. If you send it back to OCuk and it's fine they will charge you for testing the item. So stop being cheap and buy some DVDs, you'll find a use for them and they will be cheaper than OCuks testing charge.

Hono your not the only one getting fed up and I am not trying to re-word it simply work out whats actually going wrong. I'm going on hols in a few days so I will order when I get back.

I'm RMA'ing the USB back as soon as I get the email with the RMA number etc however since it also doesnt work.

The USB I would have got to later. Again you are not listening to my advice. If you return the USB and it's fine, it will come back to you and you will be charged.

Once you burn the bootdisk you can keep hold of it as it's very handy to have as part of your "PC toolkit". It's possible both the HDD and USB stick are duff, it makes sense to check the HDD first. If the HDD is ok you can install the OS via the optical drive, then we can look into the USB stick.

If both turn out to be duff you can post off both items at the same time.

+1.

You haven't got anywhere near being able to determine if your parts are actually faulty. You've not done any proper troubleshooting and trying to take the easy option by just sending it back. However, this is only the easy option if it is ACTUALLY faulty. If it isn't, you'll be out of pocket, without any replacement components while they're tested and a week or two down while you wait for the RMA process to complete.

I would hazard a guess that they aren't faulty and you've done something incorrectly. Nothing at all wrong with this - PC building is only 'easy' once you've built one all the way though but in my opinion one of the biggest issues is that people aren't prepared and have enough basic knowledge.

Burn Windows to a DVD and boot into it this way. Or buy an OEM copy of Windows 7. Then you can format your HDD properly within the Windows installation process and see what happens.

Until you've at least tried this and seen what happens I don't think anyone else can help you any further.

To confirm, I'm not saying your equipment isn't faulty. I'm saying you haven't done enough to rule other things out.

Tomorrow I MAY re-do the cables, I was quite frustrated at the end so I settled for the mans "that'll do" resolve.

Hmmm I never though about that, cheers, I'll change the drive because I will definitely use the USB ports.

To be honest I probarbly will only be overclocking when the CPU feels destined to need it. Since I cant afford anything right now. And the loudest thing by far is the DVD-RW :/

Cheers for the suggestions though.

i think theres some software or firmware or something to slow down the spin so they are less noisy but rly i forget, google it!

ok this was a half helpful post :p

nice build tho! share ur sweets!

I understand the parts I think are faulty which might not be so I am waiting for the DVD's and burn windows and the firmware etc onto that, I have taken that it dont worry.

I know the USB drive is faulty because we have tried it on 3 different PC's each ending in the same thing. Requires formatting and windows wont have any of it, shuts the formatting down due to errors and what not.

Hono you will now be happy ;) I have bought a 25 pack of 4.7 GB DVD-R's.

What testing software do you reccomend burning onto the disks?
By the way I have already done memtest 86 and it shows up fine :)

Hey guys I dont know if your reading this but I burned Windows 8 onto one of the disks and let the pc install it however this came up:

Your PC needs to be repaired

A required device isnt connected or cant be accessed

Error code: 0xc0000185

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your install tion media. If you dont have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contatc your system administrator for your pc.

So I have taken the HDD and am using a 2.5" 250GB spare (xbox slim one)
EDIT: Same thing again, im going to remove the DVD-RW and install it again.

EDIT 2: Same again, im going to burn windows 8 with a different software.

Can't really afford another £90-100 for an OS, I'll have a student card in a few months so then I can buy Windows 7 at a lower price.
