Long Boring Drive/Impressive MPG

I've had 38.8mpg out of our Galant 2.5 V6 on a run from Swindon to Colchester via Cambridge, then to Bristol, and back to Swindon all on a single tank.

I've also had 32.something out of my 2.5 V6 twin turbo automatic 4wd Legnum VR-4. But, I've also had 11.2mpg out of that, too!

These figures are from reasonably long motorway runs I'd say, mine is anyway. Not regular mixed driving.

I got 36.2mpg out of my old E30 2.5 manual, doing about 55-60 on a 120 mile round trip. That was so boring I almost died.

It was on the way to PPC in the park, so I was being followed by one of my old cars that belonged to a friend, so we had to instate a rather relaxed cruise there!

So its not even that economical, what a complete waste of time.

Well, 70mph is bit over 3000rpm...so that mpg at 75-80 a majority of the way isnt bad I think. Plus the fact that the trip was planned only a few days in advance, and so car worked out much cheaper then train etc

Takes practice and concetration to get high mpg. I think the VAG diesels are amazing. From my boro 1.9tdi (130bhp) I can get 70mpg on a 30 min drive back from work. I'm currently averaging around 60mpg over 600ish miles.

I was happy with my 32.6mpg average today over 300 miles with some enthusiastic slip roads chucked in for good measure.

150mile round trip, got 78.8mpg in the prius at work, same journey in my zed was 22.9mpg (although it was about 20 minutes quicker...!)

Hmm, I only seem to get about 40MPG in the Leon.

Fox has assured me that's normal for the car and the commute though - and it's not like I pootle along in the inside lane either so it's probably par for the course.

Taking a 200 miles or so trip up to the lake district last october i got around 500 miles out of the tank of fuel i had, which according to my calculations(probably wrong :() it works out at around 55mpg............seems too high :/

(prepares his flame suit)

You do realise that the onboard computer is nearly always over optimistic i take it?

I wont embarass myself but a small car (1.4tdi) going to work via clear A-roads only gets between 60-65 mpg

How the heck do you manage to beat it?
