Don't stop fighting, the other guy is not your friend. Fight to get everything that you work for and file official complaints if the other guy tries to shaft you in any way. If you get shafted, look for new work.

Suery it will be on record that you made the deal. Show that to your manager and demand the bonus as previously agreed.
Who cares what faffing around went on before hand. your name on the contract so to speak so it is your sale.
Perhaps thank the guy for the tip but it isn't your fault he works in a different area and can't do anything about it, all he can hope for is good will and that you help him out later on.

It is the bad/good things about bonus culture, yes it makes people motivated but it also stops them working together. That is the companies issue though.
