Longest wait you've experienced after an interview?

In recent years, 20 minutes. Seriously.

First interview a couple of years ago, had my interview (I was the last from our team to do so), we got called back in one by one almost momentarily.

Second interview, current job started 6 weeks ago. 20 minutes after I left the companies building I received a phone call form the agency saying that they had been phoned by the company and made an offer!

Longest was a few days applying to an apprenticeship scheme 7 or so years ago which took a few days.

What's the deal with jobs over there at the moment? After that FB post i've heard nothing and the careers page lists no actual positions?!

The NHS are always good for massive delays. Shortlisting takes weeks, the organising interviews takes more weeks, then decisions take even more weeks as they need to get references before making formal offers. From closing date to offer at a previous job in the NHS took about 6 weeks.

Job I have now (private sector) was offered to me in the interview.

No idea how long I should expect to wait for the interview I went to this morning.

It seems to vary wildly between companies. I wouldnt worry about a week or two. Any more and I would chase it up.

Once interviewed for a job, never heard any more until while, some weeks later, at work my wife rang and said someones delivering a car. It was the company car for the job. I needless to say refused to take delivery and rang them to say I would not be there the following Monday. never heard anything after that.

Longest wait I had was 4 weeks. I was told initially it would be around 2 weeks and that I would hear in writing. After 3 weeks I phoned to to make enquiries and was told there had been a delay due to illness. A week after that I recieved a text informing me I had not gotten the job.

I think even if I had gotten the job I would have declined due to the sheer lack of professionalism displayed.

3 weeks, but it's because HR forgot to pass on the message from the hiring manager and I was too torn to call earlier to ask!

Odd way round, but interview on the 26th Feb 2010, applied for the job fully 24th April 2010, offered the job 22nd Feb 2011, started 11th April 2011. How's that for a long wait.

In the 3 places I've worked, I was offered the job on the same day as the interview, so I was lucky there.

For interview failures though, I would say that Prudential (insurance company) was the worst. 5 weeks it took them to tell me that I've failed. Most rejection letters tend to arrive 1-2 weeks after interview. I only need to read the first 4 words of the letter "We regret to say..." then straight in the bin because I know what the rest of the letter says.

My current job the interview went really well, I got asked if I wanted a tour around the building after the interview. Obviously I agreed and I only got half way through the tour before being called back into the interview room and told I got the job.

Was competing against 8 other applicants so I was super proud at the time :D

Well, I got in contact with the hiring manager since I started the thread. Unsuccessful. However he called me back and gave me a really good chat, and praised me for a fantastic interview. Apparently the competition was just too much, the job would have included training, however there were contractors with 5-10 years of experience looking for a permanent role.

Ah well, another interview on Wednesday.
