Hi all,

To cut a long story short ive got some funds burning a hole in my pocket and am considering grabbing another gcard now while ive got the money

However im wondering how long its likley to be untill a xfire set up starts to struggle with games? I only play at 1080p but like to play with as many settings maxed as possible. I play mostly bf3 but will obviously get bf4 when its out and am downloading crysis 3 as i type this.

Current specs are

3570k @4.7
Z77x d3h
8gb mem
Windforce 7970 @ 1200/1500 daily clocks

Would be looking at grabbing a gigabyte 7950 (providing they arent v locked and blocks are available)

I have 2 x 7970s running at 1440p on a 920 D0 at 4Ghz and to be honest I can't see anything troubling them for the next 18 months, possibly longer. I much more likely to be CPU limited.

as the OP says he is thinking of joiing a 7950 with a 7970 , I would say wait up and dont waste your money (if you really want to upgrade, wait until you can afford a 2nd 7970 - or sell the original and get 2*7950's)

Wont the Op be wasting some of the 7970's graphical horsepower by putting a 7950 with it?

(I saw he is only using 1080p, so it might not make that much difference - but thought it was still worth pointing out)

anyone know which 7950's have waterblocks available? the eks cooling config seems to keep coming back with " we don't make a block for this card"

1 x his hd 7950 iceq boost 3072mb gddr5 pci-express graphics card (h795qc3g2m) £249.95

has full core and vram voltage support.

If the 50 clock is set higher than the 70 clock, gpu usage can be matched.

Bf4 was running 7970 crossfire at e3 and Witcher 3 was also running on a beast of a pc which I have heard but cannot confirm was also running 7970s. I power my dell 1400p monitor with a couple and Im confident they will handle all the next gen console stuff.

Thanks for suggestions and replys

Only reason im thinking of a 7950 is my 7970 is unlocked and afaik volt unlocked 7970's arent available anymore?

Fancied x fire for a while just dont wanna gimp my current card

there should be some versions that isnt locked. Might find a used card for sale.
Best option but is unknown is wait until October/november as there likley be some fun stuff happening around the Bf4 release.

Yes i discovered some interesting things since going crossfire. With my 2700k at 4ghz my 7950's were being slightly bottlenecked in sleeping dogs. Extreme quality, 1440p you'd think you'd be gpu limited but no was seeing gpu usage drops as i was driving around the city. Bump my i7 up to 4.5ghz and now seeing 99% usage constant, with vsync on.
