been mucking about with the standard point and shoot cams, but wanted to get something with a better zoom, like the 12 x ones, i'm looking at under £200 which i know is pretty cheap, but also looking at 2nd hand so maybe something around that price?

any recommendations?

so far been looking at the

Canon PowerShot S2 IS
Canon PowerShot S3 IS
OLYMPUS SP-500

You can't really go wrong with the Canon Sx IS range. Decent image quality, easy to use and a wide range of accessories should you need them.

they do look nice but new a little out my range, but i do get paid this week!

does anyone know of any cheaper options?

I own a S3 IS and am very happy with it as a backup to the 400D

How about a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 for <£160

(I don't really know much about this camera but I'm sure there'll be plenty of information @ dpreview.com)

I can recommend the Fuji Finepix S5600. It can be had online for around £125 and has a 10x zoom. Look at the link in my sig for pictures. Very good camera with all the advanced features.

I'm looking to replace my Fuji S5000, the Panny FZ7 looks a like a nice camera and it'll do 16.5 x zoom @ 3mp :D

And as been said you can get it for under £160.

My Fuji is ok, just the pics are noisy and the 2 sec max shutter speed are annoying, the Panny has up to 60 secs shutter speed.

well that sounds like i good price, can it be mentioned on here?
You can just type S5600 into google and it's on the top advertisements bit. It's a large, well known site.

EDIT: Maybe you want to get a bit more for the budget you have though? Unless you want to buy a 2GB XD card and a case etc.

thanks... no cheap is what i need, i'm just look at the mo anyhow, so will take time to review and so on, thanks though i just need ideas at this stage!!!

Yup, all those photos were with the S5600

I've just taken a random photo and it's 1.25MB at 2592*1944 resolution. I could use a 256MB card but today a 1GB card is like £15 so it's not expensive to upgade.

sweet thanks mate, one more! :p

what format does it create the pic's in as standard? and do you use the software? i normally hate stuff like that and would really like to just plug and play!

I just take pictures and they come off the camera as JPEG. It does RAW but I haven't been bothered to mess with all the settings and stuff. You get some really simple software with it which you don't have to install but I have because you can select all pictures and do a batch resize etc and a few touchups really easily etc.

Do you find lack of image stabilization a problem? (I don't believe this model has one)
