Looking for a 1440p Monitor

Well the RTings review has landed for the G2724D https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/g2724d and based on that i bought it!

Good choice, for that money it's hard to fault. If you lived nearby I'd calibrate it with my spectro/colorimeter for free just to see how good it is out of the box! ;)

I use my monitor for similar things like you; graphics, music production and gaming. Though I'm using a 32" LG 165Hz 10bit, IPS monitor - I couldn't go back to 27". :)

I'm fairly space constrained desk wise with two Yamaha HS5s also sat on a sturdy desk... Will see how things go when i get this monitor (arriving today apparently)!

So it arrived today and all so far is good! Quite a nice upgrade from a 75hz 1080p TN monitor! Also noticed that the price has gone back up to £299 so glad i did not procrastinate any further!

Ordered....

Hopefully a good upgrade from my 11-12 year old DGM 2701wph! It's certainly served me well over the years!

Will report back on Monday if I remember :) I'd been struggling a bit with ARK Ascended - getting around 35-40fps, which isn't an issue mostly, but the tearing was driving me nuts...hopefully the VRR will solve that issue without me dropping £2.5k on an AM5/4090 setup :D

Only two downsides I could see form the rtings review...

- no USB hub/ports (can add an external hub or 7port PCIe card if it becomes a problem!)
- apparently not great for darkrooms.... my camera is digital so I guess that won't be an issue for me ;)

I tend to game etc in a dimly lit room so it works for my needs, however it depends on what you are used to. Also not having USB is fine with me plus i appreciate the DP to USB C cable so i can hook up my works laptop when working from home!

Yeah I was mostly making a bad pun on 'darkroom' :p
My current monitor is IPS so I'm sure it'll be fine/better.

The USB thing was just because it was something that was there on other monitors I was looking at, and because for some reason AM4 boards don't seem to have much in that regard.
As I said it's not a huge concern and could work around it in other ways.

Really looking forward to trying it out on Monday :)

Monitor arrived Monday as expected, only got around to setting it up and putting some time in to try it out yesterday....

Colours seem good, a touch more vibrant than my previous IPS, I don't have the tools to tell whether it's more/less technically accurate.

VRR works well, just had to enable it in the radeon drivers. It seems to refresh at double the framerate in ARK, only going to 1:1 sync when the in game framerate exceeded 60.
From the rtings review I was expecting it to be 1:1 from around 20, or at least 48, but I guess this is just how it works. It does appear to have completely resolved the tearing I was getting, which was breaking the immersion quite a bit. - I played a few hours yesterday and had a great experience.

Overall, at the price I paid (£209) I would thoroughly recommend it, if it was £300 then there are other models I would probably consider before or at least equally to this (e.g. the Gigabyte M27Q).
Dell's reputation for good warranty is the icing on the cake!
