Looking for a 21"+ CRT for gaming

Lag doesn't bother me. Neither does ghosting or any of the other often-given reasons for avoiding LCDs for gaming.

For me, it's tearing - pure and simple. At the 60hz LCD refresh you need vsync to get around it and as I've said a few times in this thread, not only does it limit the framerate but the discrete jumps in framerate really kill the illusion of motion in FPS games.

LCDs win hands down for web browsing / word processing / programming etc though. I use one at work, and am considering one for when I work at home...

I totally understand what you are saying with regards to tearing. The Quake 4 engine has given me no end of problems trying to get a smooth image on an LCD. Fortunately, my VX922 will run at 70 or 75Hz which helps smooth things out.
The black levels on the other hand are still a real bug bear with me :/

Please post back regarding driver issues. Very tempted to get one myself. Either this or an fw900 crt 24" monster. What other monitors are capable of 120hz @ 1600 x 1200 ? I wish i'd known years ago i've been missing out :D

Get the Sony 24" if you can. Superb monitor.

Started to stockpile them here as they're going to get harder to buy and I flat out refuse to go TFT until they stop giving me headaches and match CRT's in flexibility.

So, no TFT's ever for me then. ;)

I have a 21" VeiwSonic g220f would not change it ever... colour depth is just too darn good compared to LCD's

Might I add Veiwsonic customer service is second to none. A Retailer was giving me grief about CRT 19" I was trying to send back. 1 Email to Veiwsonic. I got a phone call and was told a replacement with a free upgrade to 19" to 21" for free :) :)

You can see the diffrence a mile away look how rich the colour is compared to the LCD

Out of curiousity, what can the Compaq 1220 cope with @ 1280 x 1024 ? 150hz or 120hz?

my iiyama 21" is 120hz @ 1280 x 1024..150hz @ 1024 x 768.. but..85hz @ 1600x1200

would get a new 22 inch crt anyday over any tft
getting harder to find them at a decent price i may have to get
a viewsonic 19" before crt vanishes forever.

Funny, the only people I've even known to complain about headaches were those running CRTs at 60Hz refresh rate... I thought that because of the way a TFT "pulses" the picture, you didn't get them at all...

Can't use a TFT for more than 10 mins without getting a stinking headache.

It's a problem as we work a lot with laptops. :(

The weird thing is - I can see TFT's shimmer and that really irritates the hell out of me and caused the head from hell.

My CRT running 2304x1440 @ 80hz is perfect though. Even better at 1920x1200 @ 98hz.
