So my brother 1TB Samsung HDD is sounding like its on its way out after many many years.

Hes looking for something quiet, all it does is store games and documents etc.

I had a quick look at the store and saw different version of WD drives yet dotn really underatand what the difference is.

Any advice on what he should get?

WD Blue HDDs are mainly used for general usage, what most day-to-day users will grab.

WD Green is a lower powered drive (eco friendly). Lacks performance because of that but good for use as a large storage drive.

WD Black is the performance drive, but comes with the downsides also (louder) but has the longest warranty (5 years I think)

WD Red is a NAS drive.

WD Purple is for surveillance recording (24/7 usage).

WD Gold Datacenter/enterprise hard drive.

So either go for a blue or black, if noise is an issue, the blue, if you want the longer warranty or the bonus performance, the black.
