Apparently a problem I've been having it due to the JMicron controller I've currently got for my SCSI/RAID controllers.
The fix is to use generic Microsoft controllers but I'm having a problem locating them.

Any help appreciated :)

What's the problem you're having mate?

usually jmicron controller drivers are on the motherboard manufacturer's website :)

Stuttering of audio, video and games. I've read around and 99% of the causes seems to be the JMicron IDE controller. I've updated to the latest version from Abit and it hasn't helped at all.

Apparently generic MS controllers will sort the problem!

You mean drivers. Make sure the controller is set to IDE/Legacy mode rather than AHCI, unisntall the JMicron drivers, reboot and it should be picked up as normal. Only time you should use controller drivers is for RAID, otherwise there are often issues with AHCI or IDE drivers from even the controller manufacturers.

WAIT !

I've been battling with this for days, Jmicron is a complete POS from all the stuff I've been told ,

You need to set it to IDE in the BIOS and uninstall the Jmicron raid config driver thing in the add/remove programs section

Reboot and windows will say its found new hardware, let if find its own drivers and your stuff should be working properly.

I've suffered from a similar problem as you with my Abit IP35 Pro , both CD Drives were stuck in PIO mode ( v.slow ) when they should have been in DMA ( fastest mode ) and the above fixed it.

EDIT - Definately sounds to me like your running and IDE hard disk ? and its stuck in PIO mode.

Yes, I'm running my OS from an SATA drive, but I've also got two IDE drives for storage (where my games, music and films are). It's already set to IDE in the BIOS, so I'll remove the configure-jigger.

Apparently JMicron has a problem with being able to use DMA properly, which is why it switches over to PIO. Right now both of the drives are set auto to DMA.

I had this problem with my Asus P5K-E wifi. Some how it didn't stutter on my first install of windows, but when I formatted and installed again it caused me constant problems with audio stutter. Luckilly I dont use the PATA connectors and just disabled the jmircon controller and bought a silicon 3132 chipset sata/esata raid controller!

Why not use your PATA drives in an external enclosure instead and disable the jmicron? :)
