Looking for new machine, have up to about £1000

You've mentioned audio, mouse and Keyboards, any other parts can you re-use from the old PC? Monitor? DVD? Obviously not the case or PSU :(

This is what I'd get if I were building one today:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium £75
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-127-MS

Total £969 + shipping

I've overspecced the PSU a little for future proofing and life extension.
The case might be a bit over the top.....
If you can hold off on the HD until prices come down then that'd save a fair bit, but still get the SSD.
I admit, I struggled with GFX card choice. I picked the 560 as it's a pretty good bang for buck.
I stole CinderzFTW choice of CPU cooler....

I also want to be able to play the likes of BF3 at the highest settings. I don't want to be getting games in a year and struggling to play at high settings.

The problem is, who knows what requirements we'll need in a year? All of todays GFX cards might not be up to it. I'd pick a card you can play todays games on at a reasonable price with the aim of upgrading it in a year when new cards are out.
The 2500K CPU should last quite some time since 'most' games are GFX limited, the CPU isn't even being used 50%.

That looks a bit unbalanced to me.

GPU wise you definatley need a GTX560ti or a GTX 570.
CPU its your choice but you cant go wrong with either i5 or i7.

No need for a 2TB drive, especially at these prices.
Its best to go for a 850W PSU, for SLI.

The motherboard is a bit under-specced i think. Gigabyte and asrock are rolling out the PCI-e gen3 boards.

Nice case choice.

HDD prices will not come down for a long while, so buy what you can now.

for 3d you can't just connect it to a 3d tv, you need go get a 120mhz 3d ready monitor and special nvidia glasses etc. from what I've read a single 570 will struggle with the 3d, you'd want sli.

the cheapest 570 should be fine but the more expensive ones offer better coolers, pre-overclock, better warranty etc. upto you if you think those things are worth the extra.

don't forget a 120mhz 3d ready monitor+3d glasses, you only need those if you want 3d. but that can all come at a later date, for now get the essentials(cpu/mb/ram/psu/etc).

Probably a fair point, so for an extra £55, with 2 games :)

Smaller drives aren't much cheaper, if you need storage, 2TB is still the way to go. I agree about the price, hence I suggested holding off on it if possible.

True, but at the end of the day, almost any mobo will get a decent overclock and they all have decent features, and that one looked a bargain to be honest.

Nice case choice.

It's a bit overkill, got the Raven 2 myself, the layout is just so sensible!

big no no on the competitor listing ;)

instead of copying pasting the list with the obvious competitor name included(which is not a good idea) list the components and such.

they've kind of gone overkill on the psu as it's a matx case and mobo so sli really isn't an option(not sure if the mobo can supports it, asus maximus gene-z would have been a better choice), 650/750w would have been better/cheaper.

either way I'd say it's better to build your own.

Cheers I will delete that in a sec, sorry I thought we just can't post links to competitors, I'll just build, I'll delete the last post when I finish watching dexter, on iPhone atm

guys, im pretty much going to go with the original spec, i think. But I'm going to get i7 and a 570. I just need advice on which 570 I should get from here? I'm flexible on price.

FYI, I'd be willing to get a 580, but from what I see, it doesn't see worth the difference.

I've got quite a bit of cash to play with tbh, but I'm Scottish and tight at the same time.

Someone make my mind up for me :)

If your doing gaming mate, you'd be better off getting the i5 2500k. There isn't much difference between that and the i7 2600k, other than the benefit of hyperthreading, which you wont use for gaming. Best off saving a good £70 quid and getting a more powerful graphics card :)

I'll see what the total cost comes to and decide from there, I just need to decide on a card. I'm not sure which 570 would be best. Or what about the Radeon 6970??

No HDD, dunno if you've got an old one? Or if you even need one? Can always replace the M4 for an HDD and you can have plenty of storage for a similar price
