Looking for new machine, have up to about £1000

ok lets see what the price difference is if you build it yourself, spec for spec then with suggested improvement.

prices are taking the current weekly deal, so if you buy by next tuesday night

case antec 300 £49

cpu i2500k £168

mb asus p8z68-v £134

ram 4gb pc3-12800 1600mhz c9 kingston hyperx genesis grey(think thats the one they use) £30

cooler they use the ocuk h2flo but no longer sell it, so antec kuhler 620 £42

psu ocz zs 750w £67 people may not agree with me but I'd pay extra for antec/corsair

graphics card doesn't mention which make/model but most likely the 'ocuk' one £260

hard disk wd cavier blue 500gb £92

lg dvdrw £19

total £861(~£60 difference but would have been £100 or so before the flood, don't think ocuk have put the prices of the pre-builds up to reflect the price changes)

now for the improvements

case silverstone raven3 £120 could go for cheaper

cpu i2500k £168

mb asus p8z68-v/gen3 £140 or to take advantage of the msi cashback deal msi z68a-g65 g3 £150 but £125 after cashback

ram 8gb pc3-12800 1600mhz c9 g skill ripjawsx £42

cooler antec kuhler 920 £65

psu lepa g 700 £100 or corsair tx750m £100

graphics card msi gtx 570 £252

hard disk samsung spinpoint f3 £90

dvdrw this really doesn't matter too much any £15-£20 or if you have the budget blue ray(but retail)

total for msi board £1007 then after you get the cash back £982
asus £997

could knock the case down to the antec 300 or similar priced case, antec kuhler 620 rather than the 920 and get a 64gb crucial m4 ssd

or you could knock the case back to the antec 300 £910(or even cheaper if you drop the kuhler 920 to 620 ~£890) which is cheaper than the pre-build

Not ignored, just nothing useful to say.

Plus I have 1 post in this thread (2 now technically) so why start.

already told you what you need for 3d gaming, a 120mhz 3d monitor plus the nvidia 3d glasses(some monitors have the glasses bundled). clear enough for you?

In your opinion do you think THIS or THIS (+ a second 570) would be better? The second one would be just slightly more expensive.

With the first system I could always add another 580 at some point.

I know, people on here keep saying. But in the future it won't be all I'll need! I don't tend to buy PC's very often or upgrade them

Dude if you want future proof go with an i7 and a really good motherboard and spend 100 or 200 more than you had planed.

you might need hyper threading for something in the future, you never know.

I'm building a future proof rig myself, Id rather spend a bit more if it means peace of mind.

I'm going to wait until the Geforce 6xx series comes out before buying I think.

Does anyone have any idea what the high end card will likely cost?
