I would recommend also Breaking Bad ... it is simplest one of the best scripted dramas I've ever seen. Give the first season a go at least, they're short seasons.

Boardwalk Empire is another superb show even though it is set during the 1920s prohibition era, it is produced by Martin Scorcese & Mark Wahlberg, it is more like a drama with gangsters & corrupt people.

Fringe although is considered sci-fi, a lot of the early seasons is quite procedural. A friend of mine isn't into sci-fi but quite enjoyed Fringe.

I also like it because its really a different spin on the BBC one

The Americans. very good, gritty, slightly dark, Russians in America....up to no good.
