plextor is a great drive v speed v price, just as quick as the samsungs etc, i have 2 adata pro 256gb, for the price and speeds you cant go wrong, as long as you don't mind the controllers, which i don't, work well for me.

as hdd goes, apart from raptors, which are the fastest,
Toshiba next
then WD
then Seagate

green are ok for data only, but low powered and can be slow on smaller files etc, blue WD are ok, red are for raid / NAS etc

I was leaning towards the Samsung SSD for the lower price, will I notice a marked improvement between from the Plextor over the Samsung? I will use it for OS and games mostly. Does it justify another £45 for this level of usage? Is there any reason to avoid the Samsung SSD's?

Sadly the Raptor is out of budget :D I will be taking your suggestion and getting that WD HDD.

Thanks for the reply!

**B Grade** Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - O (HD-082-SA)

£35.00 inc VAT

unless you benchmark your sdd's you will notice little difference between any of them tbh

i use 2 256gb adata pro's, great drives, have used samsung and plextor in builds since christmas, all was about the same for games and loading etc, might be different if i benchmarked them, but i don't, and by loading times you can't tell, gaming you won't tell the difference, so it depends on budget, samsung have a 5 year warranty, most have 3years

Imo samsungs are the most reliable and quiet drives, they arnt the fastest hdd's compared to the newer drives but they arnt far behind,I only buy Samsung drives as they have never let me down (touch wood)

OC doesn't seem to stock them anymore either, can't say i've ever had one, i like WD but do have a few Seagate's (well 21 and counting ) :) all 1tb models ex work, before i left and they upgraded to 2tb models, end of this year i'll have those that are left when they upgrade again.

i can only find one onsite and that's posted above as B grade tbh

WD drives seem to be quite, yes seagates make a bit more noise, raptors don't make much noise, but a lot of heat so need some good cooling if running 24/7

My old HDD is a Seagate Barracuda 1TB and it has lasted me around 5 years. I will most likely get the SSD I was looking at and the WD suggested above.
