Looking to buy an Audi A3 - Any pointers?

Which reminds me i had a guy try and keep up with me this afternoon in an mx-5 heading back from Ayr. Poor lad was trying to show off to his rather rather tasty girlfriend, or mum, or sis, who knows. He passed me later after i had stopped to fill up.

Anyway, the 2.0 tdi is a good engine, and is CR. Bit noisy yes but can get its move on when needed and if out of warranty remaps well and even gives better mpg then. I had one in a golf and no matter how i abused it the worst it every averages was 39mpg. And i abused it! S-line is a bit sore on the back though usually! And defo get with the nav as mentioned if you can. Adds so much to the cabin....like nav!

I don't know about that, I have heard the actual sport orientated BMW's like the M3 handle well. :p

Nope, you cant get good handling just be changing the suspension and stuff. The basic package must be right. With a BMW, this just isn't the case.

i wish you had told me that before as i could have got a refund from jez, damn thing only ever seemed to go straight on at roundabouts and make me look a right noob all the time

In many cases it may be relative but this is truly awful

Must be a duff one then. A 4 pot diesel is never going to be as smooth as a 6 pot or a petrol etc, but it seems perfectly acceptable for a mid sized hatch to me. Its smoother and quieter than my Mondeo which is generally considered to be a pretty decent oil burner

OP, have you decided that you definitely want an A3? If not, what's your requirements excluding the ones you've posted (such as your annual mileage, performance).

I haven't tbh - still looking - although I did test drive a 2.0TDi A3 (08 plate), and I was impressed. It was noisier than my Focus but I suppose that's expected.

Requirements:

Around £15,000 (can add a couple of thousand if it makes a huge difference)
5 doors (not set in stone - would take a 3 door with space)
Mileage per year: 20,000 / 30,000
2006 or newer
Diesel if possible
Something that is relatively sporty (I realise this won't be a sports car though with the above spec!)

True - but i've been fine in my Focus! I'm not a badge snob but I want to try something different other than a Ford. Always had a ford in the family as dad/myself/missus' mum all work (or have worked) for Jag so we get good discounts.

However, if I was to buy another ford, it would probably be a Mondy.
