Strange when they need bail outs making that much money. It has to be going to the top 5 people in the company! They probably moving all the money out of the main country off shore then do a runner when it's over.

One of the owners is an investment firm - sadly some big UK defence companies might go the same way as at least two have had hostile takeovers by such firms (GKN being one of them(.

Not here
The investment needed goes way beyond that, our railways are among the most well utilised in Europe (source) , but our biggest problems are capacity and mixing of slow local trains and fast express trains on the same lines, and have hamstrung ourselves with ridiculous controls preventing, interfering and inflating any attempted infrastructure investment (See HS2 and any attempt to build new roads or power stations)

The problem isn't just short term populism in government, its that most of the people in the UK have no vision.

More like, they don't care unless its going to make them profit.

The objections to hs2 havent been driven by profit, but by short sighted idiocy on many fronts and nimbyism

Well that's the problem isn't it, eventually the nimbyism begets itself as the project looks less able to be rationalised. Honestly it started with the ridiculously low costing, so the government only has itself to blame for trying to pretend it was going to cost pennies. I know contractors take the ****, but the government is meant to know that.
