Loop order advise/sanity check

Shame to hear those qd are so restrictive
Though looking and seeing
They are 16 quid for male and female set
That's much cheaper than most others
The koolance i used to have cost that or a bit more
Just for the male or female
They weren't exactly small but that didn't bother me

Though I think they're all overpriced somehow
Can't think feeling we are
Missing a trick here/just lacking knowledge
Hydraulic equipment or even pneumatic equipment possibly
Use quick disconnects
And they can be had cheaply
Just don't know enough about them to figure how
To connect them to tubing in a loop
Even so I think its doable somehow

Yeah, I thought I had scored a bargain, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" comes to mind.

I don't mind paying a premium for something that works and is well built, I just cant work out how to get the QD4 down to G1/4 female

Mine were older koolance not qd4
But
I used quick disconnects with compression fitting
On one end
So no need for any additional g1/4 male or female fittings
They were actually the larger diameter 19mm /13mm
But had no issues getting 16mm/10mm tubing on them
Dunked the end of the tubing in cup of water from the kettle
To make life easier when I used primochill lrt
As its very physically hard Tubing
But zmt would probably have went on without heating it up
Though I heated it anyway

Interesting, do you think the EK 16/10 tubing will go straight onto these with a bit of heat to soften them?
I do yeah
Can't 100% guarantee it
But I used the can't quite remember model
Vl3 or something
At 19mm/13mm for years and got various different
Makes of tubing on there
Primochill lrt was a bit of a struggle must admit
But it did go on
Don't know if you've ever used it but it's very tough stuff
Zmt is way softer

Ps
Change your link to ocuk ones
If they have them
Can't link competitor companies
Manufacturers websites may be a bit more of a grey area
But depends which moderator sees it

Thanks Numpty, I hadn't even considered trying to push the EK tubing straight onto the compression variant of the QD4. I think you're correct though, and I should easily be able to get them on with a bit of patience. This will save so much hassle.

RE the URL, if a moderator could advise if links to manufacturer sites are allowed I would appreciate it.
OCUK don't have the QD4's unfortunately.

Only reason I found out
I spotted them on ebay but no one was bidding
Guy actually bought them from ocuk
But never used them
I picked them up for a fraction of their value
So I figured if I need to buy stuff to reduce them
Down to 16mm/10mm
Was still going to be cheaper than buying them new

Once I had them I thought let's just try this
And see what happens
Got nothing to lose
Got them on there then set up a tiny loop outside the case
And ran it for a few hours
Just to make sure the tubing was staying on there

Sorry I sold them now when I moved to using a distro
But yeah you can always try
If doesn't work send them back
But I am pretty confident it will be fine
Going by my experience with the 19mm/13mm I used

Thanks again Numpty, this is really good to know, I'm sure I will be able to make them fit.

Were yours the QD3? (I am struggling to source the QD4 without paying really high shipping direct from manufacturer). The QD3 are in stock on OCUK.

Am just Looking back through all my ebay purchases
May have been model number vl4n

Edit
Or possibly vl3n
My brain thinks there was a 3
In the model number
But my memory isn't the greatest must admit

Hey, thanks for your input. Really good point about the dual pumps adding a form of redundancy.

It's the MO-RA IV 400 (4 x 200mm fans), it should go nicely with my Thermaltake Core case/frame as they are roughly the same size.

I agree that 45c is a bit warm (I'm using the EK ZMT 16/10 soft tubing), hence my plan.
Whilst the ambient temp certainly isnt helping, the loop inevitably heats up to 40C plus over time even when its cool (windows open etc). I might end up just putting the MO-RA on the window sill and cracking the window a bit :D

I'm another MORA by the Window believer :) but just the old Pro version though. I have it positioned on the window sill so that the warm air is taken out of the room rather than drawing cool air from the outside through the MORA, works fine for me (see link in sig below).

I only use one D5 pump (the Aqua Computer variant) and that works more than enough for my loop, I even have the flow turned down to 33%. I get the idea of pump redundancy with having two pumps, but if you're concerned with downtime just buy a spare but don't plumb it in - just swap it in if the other one fails (if it ever does). I've never had a D5 pump fail on me yet.

I'd love to upgrade to the MO-RA IV 600 but at 550 euros I think I'll stick with my 4x180 Pro!

There's also quick disconnects by cpc
Believe those are what ek rebadged the qd in
Their ek predator

Cpc make quick disconnects for all sorts of stuff
Servers, medical use and tons of other things
Kind of goes back to what I said earlier
There have to be qd that are intended for other purposes
That would still work for pc watercooling
In the old days we used all sorts of weird stuff in our loops lol
Cpc ones aren't cheap
But bound to be alternatives that are
Just might mean a few hours of googling though

Yet another edit lol
In the past when I needed tubing immediately
Went to my local car factors
And got tubing/hose meant for car uses
It's a lot stronger and rated for more heat and pressure
Than would ever see in pc watercooling
Still got some somewhere
But gets me thinking
There's definitely quick disconnects used in cars
Might have a look after dinner at that

I managed to find a graph online that shows the flow restriction between common QD models. The QD3 are not v much behind the QD4, so I might go for those as OCUK have them in stock.
If they're as well made as what I had
They're probably worth the cost
Just picking up the ones I had you immediately felt
They were solidly made

It does look like there's ones for hydraulic use
Even for pressure washers with g 1/4 thread
At quite a bit cheaper
But unless can find someone who has used them
It's a bit of trial and error experiment

Thanks again Numpty

In the end I decided to just order it all directly from the manufacturer. OCUK didn't have both the male and female QD3 in the correct compression size fittings, and I was struggling to find them anyway.
I went for the QD4 threaded type, with gauge adapters, and then the G1/4 swivel fittings. The latter is on back order, so I will have a bit of a wait before they arrive.

MO-RA is out for delivery today, so I am going to be sat looking at it for a while until I can get the QD's and associated fittings :(
