Loot-Based Games

RIFT is awful, takes 50 years to complete a quest because there are so few nodes and so many players. TERA is far superior, but then TERA is the best MMO out at the minute.

Rubbish, i've been playing it this past week and not once have i had that problem.

The point of a loot game surely isn't to just get random loot, but to have loot that actually means something in the game?

or to have the money to buy any type of loot you want, because it's the one thing that i've always thought was missing from BL2 and that is :-

the ability to order a custom made gun from Marcus, EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT via a large menu, obviously it's going to cost you a fortune, but at least you can eventually get it, but the reality is, that you might never be able to get ``Conference call or Detonating cobra``.

the loot system doesn't work in BL2 because 98% of it is rubbish and that one gun that you've always been after, you'll probably never get, BUT, you could in the 1st game

Gearbox said they would never do gun crafting, because people would just craft the best guns in the game and never have to go hunting for better ones, killing one of the major points of the game.

I think it's also to encourage people to play multi-player (better loot, people to swap guns with), and to pay for the game/be part of the online ecosystem in order to get SHIFT codes for the golden chest.

Play mount and blade warband (preferably with one of the big mods), ramp up your looting in character creation and play with the stipulation that you can only equip yourself and your companions in gear you have looted from battle. It makes for an excellent game.

If you are that obsessed with having as specific variation of a weapon down to the name then it's really not the game for you. I love the fact that I get completely random weapons in BL2, having the ability to craft or order your own weapon would utterly ruin the game for me.

The randomness is partly what makes the game fun! :p

oh i understand why, but this gun would not be cheap, you aint going to be able to afford it for ages.... you would order it at say level 40, but not be able to get it until level 50, it would have course scale up with you.

you would only be able to order a maximum of 2 guns, so you'd still have to loot for the rest....but this would give you something to look forward to..

a legendary might be worth say 1.6 million right now, but this will cost you say 3 million....so this isn't something that's too easy to get hold of, you'll have to really work for it....

Not to be an arse, but I'm not a fan of the idea.

Farming is a huge part of Borderlands, with drop rates and spawns being a chunk of the exhilaration.

It's the journey, not the destination.

I'm sure Gearbox looked at this issue, because a lot of people requested gun crafting, and they just decided it didn't fit with the game they were making.

It's easy to get millions of credits, and then you'd just be storming through the game. And you'd never want any other gun again, or it would be useless once you'd leveled up past the point where you could get to use that gun. The guns are meant to be disposable and replaceable, with the player always on the lookout for better ones as they level up and play with their friends against the party bosses.

I can't see that Gearbox would go to the trouble of implementing a gun crafting system and then say "oh but you can only use it twice". That would go against their philosophy of making the best content they can and making sure everyone can see it.

I'm a sucker for loot based games too but no title since Titan Quest has given me the same experience. Diablo 3 was geared towards making people use the AH to get good stuff as the drops are shocking, TL2 was okay but became very repetitive, BL2 is fun but isn't the top down RPG loot based game I prefer.

Hopefully Grimdawn is good but I'm not paying the hefty price just to get into the alpha early.

Have to laugh at the people recommending games he has already played, maybe read the OP before replying to get +1 to post count?!

If you enjoyed Torchlight 2 then I'd backup the suggestions for Titan Quest + TC: Immortal Throne. One of my favorite games of all time. If you don't mind your games a bit dated then Diablo 2 was my favourite of the Diablo series. Diablo 3 was pretty and because I enjoyed the past games I HAD to play it through, but lost interest fast after that due to the AH. Which pretty much single handedly ruined the replayability of the game.

As Samueltastic mentioned Fallout 3 and New Vegas are well worth a look, both very good games, you can usually pick up GOTY editions of both games pretty cheap during the sales etc. They have plenty of loot, but in a different way than say BL2. It is more looting for survival and crafting than say looting to find an extremely powerful version of X weapon.

Dishonored is a great game and the loot can be tricky to find. I scoured the (beautiful) areas and still didn't manage to find it all on two playthroughs. Very different game to BL2 obviously, but a great game with loot.

maybe yea' but the present system is wrong because many have great weapons, whilst others dont !!!!!

Gearbox has loads of loot, but 70% of it is junk, the Assult Rifles are the worst in any shooter that i've ever played, plus most of the E-TECHs are very poor too.....splat ker blasters/Dart pistols/ rail guns etc, the list of poor guns is huge and many of these are Legendarys as well.

FAR CRY 3.... yes it's boring, but every gun is like a gun should be !!!

Sorry if I missed you mentioning it elsewhere, but Path of Exile gives me the same feeling as TQIT. The only (personal) issue is it's a bit 'grimdark' whereas the TQ world was beautiful and warm and fun. Also, I sort of prefer the heavily themed builds of TQIT rather than the myrida possibilities of PoE's skill web. Nonetheless, I still get that "NEW LOOT!" joy when something epic drops.
