What to do?

As much as I truely love the M3 an unexpected pay rise and another to come have thrown a bit more cash my way (not to mention clearing of a few bills)

With the tumble of e46 prices there are bargins to be had and the e46 is seriously growing on me dispite my previous reservations!!!

My mate wants my e36 M3 and I will only lose £600 on it after 6 months driving (3k miles) we will ignore the new tyres and other work that I have had done ;)

looking at 20-22k realisticaly, with the 19" alloy option as 18s look lost in those flared arches

Black is truely mean looking but the Pheonix yellow has strangely caught my eye.

Black

Vomit/dhiorea Yellow

What do peeps think, bit of a mad thought but a fun one, and no other car really jumps to mind for 20-22k

mmm newer M3 power goodness :D

The Yellow isn't nearly as bad as I'd have thought but I'd get the black one personally

That shape is my favourite shape for the 3-series too!

I'd personally go for it, but then I've never been any good with money!

if you got the money then do it. My neighbour has an M coupe in that yellow, he hates it, as do I, but he didnt have a choice as it was the last one to be registered and sold in the UK brand new with the new E46 engine :D

the 18's give the car a handling edge over the 19's, but the 19's do look better.

Going to book a test drive at my local stealers tomorrow for the weekend if possible

I may hate it.............. ;)

I do love my current M3 though so will be a bit sad to see her go :(

When i saw you asking if you should sell it i thought you were mental, then i saw your replacement :D

Do it. But in silver or black. The blues nice too, but too common.

Question is, are you happy to put up with BMW's new warranty terms? They've really put me of tbh

They only apply to extended warranties, though. Also seems the whole thing has been rather forced upon them by the governments new legislation on insurance based warranty services :(

That's true, but I assume if you bought privately then you'd have to buy an extended warranty on renewal (which could be a month after purchase or 11months after purchase)? Whereas if it's from a BMW dealer you get 12 months free? It doesn't really soften the blow :p either way at some point you're going to pay through the nose on an extended warranty depending on conditions of the car.

Is there any more information on this 'legislation'? I beleieve Pistonheads questioned why no other manufacturers had taken this stance yet?

Others have - my Uncle had issues with his VW Golf GT TDI - he enquired as to the cost of extending his warranty and was told sure, £400. 4 weeks later he went to renew it and was told he couldn't becuase new legislation had meant they were having to re-do the entire thing.

Some time later, he got a call about it saying he could now renew his warranty. Only it was twice as much and loads of stuff wasn't covered anymore :(

Wow, that's really crap. What's the reasoning behind this?

The whole thing is now regulated by the FSA, which apparently brings extra cost and hassle into the schemes. I am pretty sure BMW and VW, for example, have now contracted the warranty schemes out to an insurance provider, whereas before it wasn't an insurance based warranty.

It sucks, one of the great things about BMW was the warranty on used cars was as good as it was on new cars - this is still the case with BMW Approved Used Cars but only for the first year of your ownership :(

It's sad in the way it will put people off buying used cars or taking the risk of buying a used car. The M3 was a serious consideration for me but barring the initial outlay, insurance and usual costs I'm not prepared to pay more for the extended warranty and the excess on top of that. As much as I want the car, I'm not going to be bent over and shafted just so I can drive it with peace of mind.

How do things stand on the non M cars? For example, a 330ci?

I cannot quite remember the exact cost per year becuase I can't find the letter, but it's approximately £100 less than before, so about £700-£800 for the year. BUT...

Exhuasts are not covered. Certain suspension components are also not covered. And here is the worst bit..

Each claim has a £250 excess. So, if you need any warranty working doing, you pay the first £250...

sod the e36, e46 for the win.

and you can't go getting it in some dull colour like black or silver

YELLOW FOR THE WIN

that is all.

get an e46 in estoril blue - that way you wont miss the e36 so much. plus its a lot rarer on the e46's.

dont get the yellow IMO

silver / grey / black / blue :)
