Only just done my new motherboard and CPU upgrade.

Was running: i7 5930k on Asus x99 Sabertooth with a 3090FE. Timespy graphics score was 19,088

Now running: i7 11700 on MSI b560 Torpedo with same 3090FE etc etc. Timespy graphics score is only 18,290

The cpu score has almost doubled from 6,980 to 12,117 though - so that seems ok and positive?

Everything in my system the same, 3090 running with my usual undervolt curve in Afterburner. My ram however is now running at a higher 3000Mhz instead of 2666.

How have I lost almost 1000 points on the GPU score??? This is the first bench I've run since doing the switch. Thoughts on what's gone wrong please and what to look at.....

Average clock speed is pretty low but presumably due to the undervolt curve - does the old run have a similar average?

Interesting. Even your original score seems pretty low for a 3090FE. I'd expect something in the region of 20k, let alone 18k or 19k.

However, I don't personally have a 3090, but keep us informed if you managed to get it sorted.

Did you do a fresh install of windows ?

No. I really really don’t want to, would take me days to get everything to how I have it now. I’m thinking of doing an in place repair install though that keeps all your apps and data intact.

Could that be the most likely cause?

Yeah this is using one of my modest undervolt curve presets. It was exactly the same on my last set up and previous runs that I’m comparing to. I want to compare like for like, the only changes being the new motherboard and cpu.

Can't you just perform a system reset, preserving your programs and data?

:edit: brain fart, reset would nuke your programs.

What speed is the PCIe slot running at, might any drives or settings have reduced it?

Couple of times when I took my GPU out to clean and put it back in, it was running at x8 or x4* or something, for no other reason than the way it was pushed in or the position it was held at by the screws on the expansion slot. Removing and re-inserting it fixed it.

* Or it went to PCIe 2.0 or 1.0 from the 3.0 it should have been. Either of the two, can't remember.

Rocket Lake might just be really really **** though?

:D

Haha. On a serious note though, the CPU score in Time Spy basically doubled compared to my 5930k at 4.6Ghz, so that's looking very good to me.

Using CPUz and GPUz it's at PCIe4 x 16. The only drive I have plugged in at the moment is my gen3 nvme which is on slot 3 running at pcie3 speeds and not tied in to the cpu at all.
I'm stumped here.

Any other thoughts (bios settings to check? MSI bios is new to me so I'm not good with it yet) before I attempt a repair install of windows and if that fails, go nuclear and wipe it all....?

You really need to reinstall Windows when change motherboard especially when you are changing to a completely different chipset

But also to add that original graphics score is still pretty low as its the same as my 3080 FE gets with a undervolt/overclock.

You really dont need to reinstall windows much these days, I just swapped motherboard/CPU and didnt, its all working great. (Dual boot as well, both windows copies working as expected)

Just need to make sure you have all the right drivers installed, you are using the correct power plan and maybe nvidia control panel is set on max performance.

Just tried setting power plan to max performance in nvidia cp and windows power plan. No difference.
Also uninstalled nvidia drivers with DDU and reinstalled. No difference.

I've installed all the drivers from the MSI motherboard website by the way.

Starting to get a bad feeling about this and wishing I'd not bothered 'upgrading'. What else can I try???
