Just saw this and was looking forward to it but now i just think i'll give it a miss. Being that this was mean't to be the best in its genre i'm abit shocked in its final outcome and was allowed to be released in its present form.
:(

Lost Odyssey looks like its been ported straight from PS2

IGN has had a lengthy play-time with Lost Odyssey and report back it is technical mess with framerate issues infecting just about every cinema and on most maps the animation looks like it was ported straight from a PS2 animation. Oh but they're not finished yet, there are also frequent and inconsistent load times complimented by visual stuttering as and when the new data loads up.

It seems that one year of extra development above last year's demo may not have been enough. The final game opens up exactly as the demo does, with Kaim in the middle of a fierce battle. One year later, and this sequence is still impressive-enough to sell someone on a 360. But you'll still have to stop playing right after the meteor strike and before you start taking full control of Kaim, because like the demo, the final game engine starts falling apart right there.

In the six hours that I've played so far, Lost Odyssey has been a technical mess, with framerate problems in just about every cinema and on most maps, an animation system that looks like it was ported straight from a PS2 engine, and frequent, inconsistent load times accompanied by visual stuttering as new data loads in.

Although it came from a different developer and used a different engine (Lost Odyssey uses the Unreal Engine 3), Blue Dragon had many of these problems when it made it out to Japan just in time for Christmas last year. I presume Mistwalker and developer Feel Plus were pressured into a release before all the kinks could be worked out.

I'd like to see a more comprehensive review before I condemn it, but early impressions don't sound good :/

Sounds bad, but after seeing this

It makes me wonder if it will be forgiveable, As i've played Blue Dragon lately and it's perfectly fine as far as I can see. And if that's being used as a comparison as far as problems go. Then it's okay with me.

Also graphics don't upset me too much either, yes i'd love to see some next gen graphics, but aslong as the storyline holds up i'll be happy.

All in all, I'll wait and see for myself :p

I'd still get it, never being that bothered about frame rate issues on consoles, it's never that bad.

The story looks amazing and for me thats the most important thing!

I agree, unless they went and did a lot of tweaking to the Blue Dragon code then there was nothing wrong with it. I've played quite a bit of Blue Dragon and haven't noticed any of these reported problems.

The japanese dont care about graphics or technical stuff, just as long as it has underage girls in school uniforms and/or monsters its an AAA title for them.

The most important and innovative game market in the world ya know...

It's not any more

I suppose its america now is it. :D

Nah, Nintendo brought us Wii, Where's that based?

Name a game on 360 thats not a rehatch? Name a feature on the 360, thats not a rehatch.

This isn't me saying eugh 360 sucks, it doesn't.

it is me saying Japan is still the main provider of innovative entertainment. And i'd love to see that point shot down.

What Japanese games are you playing then?

Xbox live is a rehatch of what? Achievements are a rehatch of what? so there is 2 features I can name instantly of the 360 that were not born in Japan.

Xbox live is an online gaming network right? So it's a rehatch of something that's existed for years. and years.. and years. Look up innovation. It's a new concept

Achievements, Yes they are nice. Big thumbs up.

What japanese games am I playing?

Anything on the Wii. I'm not playing little big planet but thats a new concepts on PS3. Japanese in origin.

This is where you show me that japan are no longer the innovative nation they once were. because you haven't, Have you seen a japanese arcade lately? Or a Technology conference?

or are you basing your opinion on the fact you like your 360.

And the Wii is just an extension of other things using movement to control games, so you can put that down if you wish too as nothing amazing from the Japs. I have never heard of an integrated online gaming network that worked across every game prior to Live, maybe you can tell me what it copied?

Tell me what games Japan has made in the last 2 years that has innovated the market, as its games we are talking about here in a games forum. I am basing my opinion on my belief that the Japanese game market is not innovative or really important to the west, tell me why it is. Why would my liking for the 360 change anything? most big Japanese developers work with the 360 in any case.

I can name a few programs on the PC that work as a Gaming network between multiple games, And they have been around a lot longer than Xbox.

You are telling me now that the Wii controller wasn't an innovative step

If so I'm not even going to argue with you if that's the case.

1 thing I must ask is if you'd consider Bluray an innovation? Because I would.

Name them then?

Wii controller was an extension to idea's already tried out and in place, it was not exactly something brand new, the eye toy for instance, the silly little tv football game that you strapped a sensor to your foot and had to kick the ball, all came before Wii so I would hardly call it a brand new innovation.

Blue Ray has what to do with games?

gamespy arcade

If thats how you see things, Then innovation hasnt existed anywhere in the world since the 1960s

Blue Ray has what to do with games?

It's a format is it not? Like DVD/CD/Tape/Floppy Disk.

gamespy only works on games supporting it, not every game for PC so fail, thought you could name a few?

Blu Ray is a format, but what does it have to do with innovating games?

I said I could name an online network, and i did. didnt i?

So you think 50gb/100gb isnt an innovative step?

You talk crap buddy. HD-DVD and Bluray are innovative steps, and both originate in Japan.

Online gaming was around before xbox live. So you are the 1 who failz

To sum up

The Wii controller isnt innovative.

HD media formatting isnt innovative

Xbox live was the first to create an xbox gaming network

And all in all Japan isnt an innovative nation any longer

Well then I guess you win ;)
