Lots of World of Warcraft expansion news today (WOTLK)

Tank + health taps + snare + pet + summonable mount + aoe dots w/fear component + 75% magic damage shield.

LOL.

The servers will be crammed with all-dk groups tearing the **** out of everything.

Looks like there's no graphical update. How long is WoW going to look the same? I appreciate they want to have some continuity in the art, but it's been 4 years. I see the same old textures being reused over and over -- rope, wood, brick, stone.

I don't mean to sound negative here, but ever since TBC, I get the feeling Blizzard is simply resting on their laurels. That spark that was evident in vanilla WoW just seems to have gone. I suppose "wow -- just more of it" will please most people, but I see nothing here that makes me want to resub :(

Zul'Drak (?) looks pretty cool though.

This isnt Crysis, why would they waste millions + game development time on a new graphics engine when the visuals are perfectly fine and more importantly, don't need top of the range machines to play it at more than 5fps.

The flying vehicle combat looks crap, saw a video on GT.

WoW died with TBC (Yes, I know it didn't by sales and subscriptions, but to me and many others who played it from release it did), Level 60 level cap was by the far the best 'era'.

Can't beat the old school Level 60 PVP movies; http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=1035 ;)

Weird dates on that website though, video was published 30th March 2005.

No Vanilla WoW servers. Waste of time tbh :P

The game is sooo botched and bodged together now. It's just funny to play. Blizzard can quite happily get my £8.99 a month back when they release Vanilla servers. I can't bare to think how much worse the game becomes when the expansion is released.

I always get the impression that people who say vanilla wow was better really havent played TBC much, sure it has changed with the level 70 cap, I agree some of the changes arent very good like welfare epics which I hate. But if you have tried the 25 man raids there is so much fun to be had with the interesting encounters like Kael'thas, Archimonde, Lady Vashj, Teron Gorfeind and that just names a few of the bosses that i enjoy fighting in 25 mans.
Level 60 raiding just felt like tank and spank on every encounter that i did, i diddnt raid that much at level 60 just MC and BWL but I diddnt enjoy as much as i enjoy 25 man raiding in TBC.

And that PvP movie Jihad linked wasnt that amazing tbh.. a level 60 PoM Pyro mage ganking people lower level that him and mounted people dosent show skill imo.. if you want to see a decent level 60 pvper look for Drakedog he had skill.

So to get back to the topic :P Level WotLK looks like it should be fun, personally i will be sticking with my paladin and wont be using a DK, i like the 10 man and 25 man versions of instances but i dont like the 10 mans having lesser loot and rewards, a 10 man instance can be just as hard as a 25 man or much harder.. think of trying to 10 man SSC at level 70 :D

At the time it was though, it's a fun video, Drakedog was good but it got a bit boring with his constant use of Engineering. (although very good use)

Anyone remember the Maydie video? Haha now that was an awesome one. :p

I definitely preferred "Vanilla" WoW, doing Zul'Gurub, Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, AQ40/20 and Naxxramus was freaking sweet, I didn't really enjoying raiding in TBC however, nor arena really. (I loved leveling throughout the TBC zones though)

More of the same coming...yawn.

And Blizzard have said they have no intention of improving the graphics, and why should they? They already have enough 'happy' subscribers (all 10 million of them).

The Deathknight does actually look very very cool, but I doubt it would be enough to pay £25+ to try it out, not to mention the fact there will be a TON running around, and Blizzard will gradually nerf it accordingly.

This post just clearly shows how the "new people" just don't have a clue how good it was back then. I played pretty much from the open beta till around june 2007. You only did the early lvl 60 instances and never did any of the real epic stuff. The opening of the gates of AQ, getting 40 people working together to down C'thun or getting 40 people to clear Naxx. The game just didn't feel as big using 25 people. The bosses in the 25 mans were either just rehashes of original lvl 60 bosses or just much simpler because of the smaller raid. They pale in comparison to the late 60 stuff. Even Nihlium themselves have said that the most fun they have had in a instance was doing Naxx. I as well as the majority of other older players agree.

Also regarding your comment on the PVP video. This was created before battlegrounds even existed (Way before your character even existed). People would meet up in Southshore, Ashenvale and just have huge battles for hours. Think of a decent size battle in Halaa, take away the flying mounts crap and times it by ten. Most people were in their low levels with hardly any lvl 60's. You drooled over someone with a lvl 40 mount let alone a epic one. No one knew how to play and everyones gear was crap but it was just so much fun. It's a shame really because it happens to most MMO's. The developers are constantly trying to add content to please everyone yet totally forgetting what made the original build such fun to play.

Actually, i was level 60 when the AQ event happened, i experienced the server lag and i experienced the sight of the servers elite players being in 1 place fighting to open AQ. And i was part of the fights in hillsbrad, the never ending push from Tarren Mill to South Shore and back again.
I admit i never experienced much of the raiding in pre tbc but what i did experience i found repetative, the first time through MC and BWL was very fun but it got boring much faster than the current 25 mans do.
Im not saying pre tbc was rubbish or that TBC is competly amazing i think tbc has good points like heroic dungeons, the old badge loot was good but now its got stupid with the new badge loot vendors.

It may just be my own state of mind that has changed and is why i am now in a BT/beginning of sunwell guild and back then i was only in a bwl guild but i enjoy the game much more now. It also may be that i have changed classes since level 60 i dont really know but i do know i would choose TBC over vanilla wow any day.

Ah nostalgia, hate to burst your bubble but lvl 60 raiding was pretty dire compared to encounters now. People drooling over lvl 40 mounts? Wow you must have leveled incredibley slow.

Pvp was a joke also, i did laugh at that video you posted, yeah was great back then when anyone could two shot anyone else with a few bwl epics.

The game is infinatly better now for their core group of players, ie casuals, no one wants to wipe endlessly on C'thun because someone finds it hard to move away from a 1mph laser. Naxx was probably my favorite zone sure, but the 40 person cap had nothing to do with it, hence why its being revamped for the expansions first 25 man raid zone. Just proved your ignorance saying that the AQ40 gates event is "epic", it was a pure grind fest, except this time you had to grind instances for wool and linen, yeah great fun, i can just remember how epic it was clearing deadmines for the 50th time. AQ40 was the worst raid zone ever released as well, by far.

I didn't lvl slow. Im talking about within a month of the game coming out. Maybe if you could read you would have seen that. PVP is even more of a joke now then what it was then. Playing realm vs realm was much more fun. A realm fixed team vs a realm fixed team was the best and most competitive PVP'ing i have ever done and i racked up over 100k kills on my toon before i quit.

Also i didn't post that video. Again learn to read.

AQ40 opening wasn't a grind fest. I guess you never actually done the raid quests?

Do you mean the scepter quest? as i agree that was a very fun quest chain (i was in 1 of 2 guilds able to do it on the server). But the main AQ opening event was the huge grind fest for the war supplies, something stupid like 4000000 runecloth bandages or 100000 copper bars.

The video I posted was made in early 2005 and if you actually watched it you would see nobody even had Molten Core epics, let alone BWL ones. :p

I enjoyed 60 and below more though, mainly with my 60 Rogue and 60 Warrior, which was the first 'alt' to get Spinal Reaper. Muhahaha! Really enjoyed DPS'ing/tanking BWL speedruns on that character, was the dogs of alt characters in our guild. :p

Well, this is the only screen I have of my Warlock in Gruul's, which was an alright encounter; http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/LukeManv2/Warrior/Gruuuu.jpg

i must admit i prefered vanilla WoW to TBC, TBC was poorly implemented, I can't explain it properly but it just didn't have the same feel as before. It just became a little bloated.

I'm asking for new textures that aren't 4 years old. I'm not asking for them to spend millions "on a new graphics engine". And no, the visuals are not fine. They were dated when the game launched, and every year sees them get poorer and poorer.

Tell me, for how long should they retain the same look? 5 years? 6 years? 8?

how long did ultima online have the same look?

I quite like WoW's look to be honest, and if subs remain on the up they don't need to waste time on a new graphics engine, this one appeals to a far wider audience.
