Lottery

Why do people feel more inclined to play when there's a rollover, the prospect of winning £2 million on the ordinary jackpot isn't enough to stake £2 on, but £10 million is??

:D:D

Tax for the poor and stupid.. simple as

If you actually want to be well off in your life, use your brain, build a network and take risks.. oh and work hard

Syndicate I run at work plays every euro millions draw and we regually have small wins.

Put our previous winnings for the year (Quarter of a grand) on the xmas draw and we won back £60 >.> .. One day ;D

Have you calculated your winning in proportion to your expenditure?

Would like to know your ROI

also.. who says 'quarter of a grand'? lol.. its £250, not £0.25m..

There is also more people playing on rollovers (for obvious reasons), which only lowers your chance of winning a big prize solo.

Lotto hotpicks is better really, 5 numbers and you get £130,000, 4 numbers and you get £7,000.

The caveat is that you can only bet on one prize, but I certainly prefer to have a much better chance of winning a life changing amount of money than a miniscule chance of winning a million.

you'd be better off playing 49's in the bookies as their odds are much better,
years ago i used to play it and i got £600 for a £1 bet on 3 numbers
EDIT: i just checked the payouts for the 49's, 4 numbers is £7200 and 5 is £125,000 so its actually not much different, its only 3 numbers where the 49's is much better

5.8%

I know several people who do :p Its not like the term adapts to inflation.

We have a syndicate at work, there are 12 of us who pay £5 pm and we do the Euro.

With luck we may one day win 24mil and all retire. Most we have won so far was £145 which we put back on the lotto. Only been going 3 months, never played it before.

My boss won a million on euro lotto raffle. He's still working but he's setup for life now. With investments and buying a house outright etc.

I just play thunderball now. Only £1 a go and I've won small several times now, moreso than ever on lotto or euro lotto.

I will play those when there's a special raffle week say when 50 x £20k raffle jackpots or 20 x £1 million euro raffle.

I think mega million jackpot wins would destroy you. I'd just be happy to win enough to buy a house and a car.

The £2 fee is worth it for the dream value alone. Its provided many hours of day dreaming and auto trader flirtations.

While I'd still like to win big, I think you're probably right. £250k would be enough to not change much in my life but make things a whole lot better. Being able to get on the housing ladder without a mortgage would just be incredible. It'd also get my girlfriend off my back about this whole 'we should buy a house' thing, because I just could.

edit: I also know the odds of winning - I'm more likely to be murdered in some specific manner than to win the jackpot.. I'm a smart guy.. but I can't help but play the odd line every couple of months. I think as mentioned above, there's value in the dream.. sometimes about £2 worth.

I love the fact a few people are telling us we are stupid for playing the Lotto. I'd personally prefer to spend £8 a month on the Lotto than have two or three beers, a few coffees or a packet of cigarettes.

I personally take part in the "big number" games and will put £10 on them. Don't really play that often though and Euromillions is where I draw my line. The odds on that are ridiculous.

Edit: Also play the Widnes Viking's lottery. Won £100 last year which paid for the whole year's subs haha. Carry on playing because I want to fund my club.

I used to play semi-regularly but stopped completely when they literally halved my chances of winning the jackpot by doubling the cost of a ticket!

I'm no Carol Vorderman but I don't think buying half as many tickets makes your doubles odds. If you buy 1 ticket then your odds are 1 in 14 million. If you buy 2 tickets your odds are 2 in 14 million, not 1 in 7 million.
