Fact of life thought that the name "Lotus" will still mean that logo to majority of fans for some time to come (imo of course) despite the legal battle's etc
Its nothing to do with any legal battles over names or logo's. They had a sponsorship deal with Lotus Cars, Lotus Cars pulled out, therefore there is now no connection what so ever between Lotus Cars (and their logo) and the F1 team owned by Genii competing in Formula 1 as Lotus GP.
The ONLY reason that team is still called Lotus as has a small Lotus logo on the nose is because if they changed it they would loose the (presumably quite substantial) prize money from last year.
It doesn't matter what the name or the logo may mean to someone, the simple fact is that team is running under a name they have zero connection with. Not a legal battle or anything like that, literally NO connection. Not to Lotus Cars, Team Lotus, Group Lotus, or any form of Lotus in any way.
It would be like Vodafone cancelling the contract with McLaren yet McLaren continue for years with Vodafone branded cars. Or Sahara and Force India, Petronas and Mercedes, etc.
Genii are only doing it for the prize money, and Lotus Cars arent going to try and stop them as they are getting free advertising. The whole situation is just wrong and annoying. The fact that it has come to this after the mud Dany Baharharhar had the cheek to drag Fernandez through over the Team Lotus name just adds to the dislike I have for that team. Its a shame, as I'm a fan of both their drivers, its the teams chequered past that spoils it. I find very little to like about the whole way the team conducts itself.
