An Elise is borderline a car compared to other convertibles so im not sure why Nasher is comparing bookend. Just take the wheel weights off any future cars and you will get that experience back - or drive a Taycan. Its so boring even this thread Nasher is mashing his pound of beef AGAIN. You didnt buy a new Elise, you havent bought an Emira, you havent driven the new Emeya - we get it. You are the voice of utopia, not the real world.

I cant decide if driving an EV cabriolet will be better or worse than a diesel variant :D

*edit* yes I can actually now I think about it...

A convertible without a proper engine just seems so perverse, one without any engine at all is going to be like driving a streamlined milkfloat!

Yea they were supposed to be a 60k+ car and at that price it looked amazing.

Same thing happened with the Elise really. At 25k there was just nothing else with that level of performance at that price. By 2023 at 55k it felt like they were pushing it.

My Elise 111S cost over £29K back in '99. That's an inflation adjusted £55K now.

is this not just what we are used to and what we are trained to find exhilarating? I do get it honestly even as an EV owner who will never likely own an ICE again. I used to own a V6 2 seater and do sometimes miss the experience (I do regret never being able to get an F Type).... but imagine back in the day those who had thoroughbred horses arguing against those smelly noisy horseless carriages, saying what about the feeling of nature, the wind in your hair etc.
bottom line we have to move on and will just have to learn to appreciate the advantages an EV gives you, and enjoy the quiet lack of engine noises and with the top down in an open top car enjoy it in a different way.
I have never been in a glider or hand glider.... but I have parasailed and there is something to be said for ditching the engine noises.
for sure enjoy those Loud big engined experiences whilst you can but sooner or later we will be moving away from them..... unless you don't want sporty open top cars any more then you should appreciate what lotus and MG with the cyberster etc are trying to do.
I hear the milk float argument a lot and with our i3 a milk float on steroids is kind of how I think of it, but they are not all like that. my ipace is a totally different experience.
the other option is something like the ionic 5 does. add in fake noises and pretend gears. in truth I thought it was a joke when 1st announced but now I am kind of on board with it. as an option you can turn off I see no downsides.

Not that I've driven convertibles much, but when I did one of the things I really liked was being out in nature and hearing the sounds around me. Feels like that should be enhanced by being an EV rather than diminished. It'd be different to listening to the roar of the engine, sure, but it's not like many modern cars sound that great anyway.
