Low 80s too hot?

I've got a Ryzen 7 5700x cooled with a Vetroo V5 CPU Cooler and I've got PBO enabled which gives me a nice boost in Cinebench and CPU score in 3D Mark however temps are in the low 80s. According to AMD max operating temp for this CPU is 90C so I'm within that.

I was temporarily using it with a Wraith Stealth cooler and without PBO enabled I was hitting 83C so about the same as now but with PBO enabled. One of the reasons I upgraded the CPU cooler was to potentially make use of the PBO setting.

If I run it at stock, temps are about 64C so much less than the 83C I was seeing with the Wraith Stealth. Should I just disable PBO and leave that to those on water-cooling or is low 80s ok?

Well I just installed MSI Afterburner and loaded Battlefield 2042 with the CPU temps set to on screen display. At stock settings with PBO set to AUTO the temps spiked at 77C but were most often in the 60 to 70 range.

It seems Battlefield 2042 creates higher CPU temps than even Cinebench R23 itself. Suffice to say I won't be running with PBO enabled from now on, god forbid what temperature readings I'd get in game with that!

As I said with PBO set to AUTO (i.e. off) I get max temps of about 64C when running a 10 minute Cinebench R23 multicore run, which is great however in gaming this rises to max 78C which is ok for gaming.

I wouldn't want to run a game with PBO enabled when it already reaches about 83C just running Cinebench R23. I never tried gaming with the Wraith Stealth cooler I used temporarily, but it reached 83C with PBO off.

So its a good thing that I upgraded the CPU Cooler to the Vetroo V5. Well worth the £ 21.32 I paid for it. Keeps my temps at reasonable levels while gaming in particular.

CBR23 will get your temeps way higher than any game would. So, unless you are going to be using your PC to run cinebench and 3d mark, I don't see whats wrong with those temperatures.
I’m finding running Battlefield 2042 at 4K heats the CPU higher than Cinebench R23. In Cinebench R23 max temp 64C but running Battlefield 2042 at 4K up to 80C.

Then its your case airflow thats the problem, it cant handle the GPU heat. What case do you have?
Coolermaster Storm Trooper. Doesn’t constantly run at 80c sometimes between 60C and 70C. Battlefield 2042 is very CPU intensive.

Just seen people in the comments saying it needs to be modified to install lots of intake fans at the front.
Yeah I couldn't figure out how to do it, another good thing about a new case is that it would run a lot quieter, this thing sounds like a hovercraft when it struggles to keep my system cool. I put the side panel back on and it hit 80C once in BF 2042, with the side panel off it hit 70C once but mostly around low 60s.

With panel on mostly mid to high 60s with occasional spikes over 70 and up to 80C once. Its within spec but sounds awful with all those fans ramping up.

I put an ordinary desktop fan at the front of the case blowing in at full pelt with the side panel on and it reached a maximum temp of 67C but mostly under 60C. So shows what can be achieved when you have the right air flow.

Also ran a test with PBO enabled, in Battlefield 2042 it reached a max temp of 71C and I ran a Cinebench R23 test and it maxed out at 79C whereas it was 83C without the desktop fan blowing in.

Well I’ve gone ahead and ordered a Fractal Design Torrent Black Dark Tint Windowed PC Gaming Case. My old case was over 9 years old and still had spaces for internal Blu-Ray drives. I use an external one.

I paid £103.83 ex VAT for my Coolermaster Storm Trooper back in January 2013. This Fractal Torrent costs me £158 ex VAT inc 5% Jersey GST and delivery.

Don't concern yourself about it OP.
I’ve got an air flow problem, maybe you don’t but I am seeing higher CPU temps than I should while gaming. Running CPU tests like Cinebench doesn’t affect it as it’s the heat being dumped into the case by the GPU at the same time which is not being effectively dealt with by the cases cooling system.

If you want to change your case obviously up to you . Im just saying you don't have to.
Its seriously noisy at the moment when both the CPU and GPU fans spin up in a desperate attempt to keep things as cool as possible. So it’ll be nice to have a quieter system that I know is being cooled effectively.

But, it CAN get a bit noisy.
I’m not that bothered about noise otherwise I would have changed my case ages ago. I just never realized I had an air flow problem. I suspected it, but it wasn’t until I saw the in game CPU temps with MSI Afterburner vs the lower temps with the side panel off that I realized there was an issue.

Look what I've got :)

I ordered it from a competitor for £180.58 inc VAT and delivery, then sent them an email requesting a VAT refund as I’m in Jersey and we don’t pay UK VAT but have our own 5% GST which is charged upon import.

Anyway it wasn’t as simple as refunding the VAT they had to create another ex VAT order and charge me for that before canceling and refunding the original inc VAT order.

I had to wait until I’d received the order before proceeding, so I emailed them to say I’d received the order yesterday and they called me on my mobile to take payment of the new ex VAT order of £150.48.

They did this via their website and I had to enter a PIN number on their website then pay by credit card, however it wanted to send me a OTP but the number listed was wrong so I cancelled.

So we tried again this time using debit card but it was declined, then we tried again using PayPal and this went through on my credit card.

Then they sent me an email saying my original order will be refunded back to me in 3-4 working days and they’ve set me up an account for future ex VAT orders as their website can’t process ex VAT orders.

I must telephone them next time quoting the ex VAT account number they’ve created for me. Anyway they’ve raised the price of the case to £194.99 inc VAT now it was £164.99 inc VAT when I ordered plus DPD delivery.

So all in all I got it for £158 ex VAT including £7.52 GST and £12.99 delivery.
