Low fps in games

i think you should perform a driver update for you Graphics Card (GFX: Chuckles)

then try again. you can get the drivers from Nvidia website.

if that fails then i would check bios settings to see if anything has changed or reverted

maybe post bios settings here and we may be able to tell you if something is at a wrong setting.

is the Graphics card reducing its power usage due to heating issues? this happend on my old 7800GTX before and reduced frame rates!
Use GPU-Z to check you card temps link below.

Hey Paul,

there are one or two reasons I can think of that may explain how you *KILLED* your FPS! :p

  • Download CPU-z and lOOk at the tab called [Mainboard] Does it say PCI-E x1 or PCI-e x16, also you can check your CPU is running at the right speed
  • Has the *universal* nVidia control panel been changed (i.e forced AA and other HQ settings etc). I see your using Vista so I'm not sure how you check this! :o

No I don't think the "nVidia control panel" have been changed.

I dont think you got 300FPS mate hell if you got 400 it would be nothing short of a miracle.

What i am thinking is that maybe you have damaged one or two of your parts, Maybe from overheating or just simply dropping it whilst moving, Or touching it giving it an electrical discharge which i have heard can really mess it up (I dont know from personal experience and dont want to try it!)

I get 320FPS in the CSS Video Test with my 4870x2 and Q6600 @ 3.1GHz (max settings, 4xAA + 4xAF @ 1920x1200) (also having set "FPS_MAX 700" in console)

I find it VERY hard to believe that you were getting 300fps+ at max settings.

Vista will knock your FPS down a little, but not by as much as you've said, maybe 5-10fps in total.
Do check AA and AF settings in CSS - Video - Advanced. If these are set high it will kill your fps.

Cool thanks for checking that! hmmm!

It use to be Windows xp, But my bro Format it and it now got Vista.
That does sound kinda like a possible cause of the problem! :D

If your system was 400fps fast when you had Windows XP and then your Bruv (bless him) updated your O/S I think you should kick his *** and get him to sort out the FPS problem hehe! ;)

Seriously though is there any chance that Vista has done an automatic Windows Update and gOOfed your GPU drivers?

Lads, I know **** all about Vista and drivers so over to you Vista gurus! :o

Sorry for very slow reply.

Yes I am sure I was getting 300+ FPS.

I am very confused for some reason the FPS as gone back to 200 300+

Thanks for the helps any way guy's, I don't know why it did that.

I have E4300 @ 3.47ghz (Watercooled) and the 8800gt with vista and 4gb of RAM and I only get about 200 fps on low settings and get 125 fps on high settings! (COD 4 BTW)

Dont know how you have ever seen getting 300-400 fps on anything?

When I play on CS:S or any other games I get low FPS like 20 - 40

It used to be 300 - 400
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

No it didn't.

There's no way in hell a 7600 would give you 300+fps.

I am very confused for some reason the FPS as gone back to 200 300+

would you mind posting a screenshot of that, with cpuz/gpuz to show the 7600GT getting 300fps?

Cheers!

css should be capped at 300 fps...you wouldnt get higher than that unless u disabled it....you seem a bit clueless so its unlikely you did.

300 still seems a bit high for your spec...im not saying its not possible as if you are not clueless and have been tweaking then 300-400 would be possible.

maybe uninstall your drivers and reinstall.

also lower some graphics settings

CHECK THE TEMP of your graphics card...if its overheating it will cripple the performance

also please let us know what settings you are running the game at

were you using tweaked drivers, i.e. not Windows certified?

I might be wrong but doesn't Vista refuse to work with modified drivers now, and wasn't it a recent automatic update OS wise?

I could be completely wrong of course...
