im planning on selling my WD hard drive and i want to write zeroes to it using a tool i used to use on a floppy disk.. i dont have floppy drive any more

is it just as straight forward as burning a bootable cd with all the files that should be on the floppy?

Yes it is. Download the ISO from the WD webbie, burn the 'image' - not the file you download, but the image using an image burner (sorry if you already know this, I only state this because many ask why their CD doesn't work when in fact they have just burned the file and not the image to the disk). Then pop the CD in and boot from the CD - it might not auto boot from the CD in which case you'll need to adjust the boot sequence in BIOS to ensure the CD is the first boot drive.

EDIT: Misread it slightly - it won't work just copying the files but I believe WD have a CD ISO which you should burn as explained above.
