Lowering - Why??

I had a Citroen Xantia once, that would go real low and it was utter and total **** but ace fun at the drive through. Le Slammed
 
Cars have historically looked so much better when lowered, they even used to do roof chops to get the car low. low is good, if done right

Looks like a smaller car under a 5 series.

My last 2 cars have been the lower version from the factory so not that low, even so I 'm a little sick of scraping my way over speed bumps.
 
I get going that low if you're riding on air. Just a flick of a switch and you can raise or drop the car. But that low on coilovers on the street is just all kinds of stupid. But it's cheaper than an air solution, so that's what goes in.

Has your CL ever been slammed Jez? with the old ABC borking up so frequently on them. I've fancied on for the longest of time but don't want to spend bucks on issues like that
 
Coilovers dont have much of a place on the road, ime.

The spring rates are so much harder than normal lowering springs that you need such savage damping to control it, the ride is going to be terrible regardless and in some cases the car less driveable

Worse still are the £120 ebay special coilovers :(

not entirely sure where they come from, but, i do know they are a generic spring and damper and all they do is weld one different mounts to make them fit different models of car. On a Golf, for example, it would be exactly the same spring/damper rate for mk2/3/4

I really wouldnt be suprised if it the was same spring/damper for every model car they supply for
 
Seems to be occurring more n more with cars like these, they become cheaper and a certain type of cretin feels the need to abuse them in such a way.

Ive never had a CL, I had an S with airmatic (so no ABC worries on that) and an SL with an updated ABC system (less problematic than on the CL215). Not had any issues with the SL at all, the S with airmatic I had a few and yes it was slammed once when the pump failed. It looked completely stupid a bit like the car in the top post :)
 
One of my friends has done this to his A4 Cab. He can't go over speed bumps or go into any multi-story car parks, etc. Just... why?! :confused:
 
There is an Ibiza cupra Ive seen which is so low the guy as had to replace the sump. He also has to avoid many speedhumps or anything raised.

If done right it looks good and adds to the handling. I'm afraid many people take it way to far.
 
I don't get all these people complaining about scraping on bumps, my front splitter is around 4-5 inches (Maybe less) from the floor and doesn't scrap on anything at all :confused:
 
Obviously you haven't encountered the right bumps, I scrapped the front splitter on my old e46 on a bump and that was stock sport suspension.
 
My car looks great lowered, but is a nightmare over speed bumps and is a bit too harsh really - kind of spoils it so when I recommission it again I'm putting standard springs back in.
