Lowest ever MPG reading

My car is magic on fuel, I swear.

I've been out hooning loads of times, one particular time I took my mate up the MM roads and after working it out, it came out at about ~20mpg.

Win.

Unless my fuel gauge is dodgy :(

Is that world's most expensive fuel or something Jake? £5 a litre?

£15 of fuel would get me about 50 miles if I was absolutely stonking it.

You fail at maths.

He said 3mpg, £15 of fuel and 9 miles = £5 per gallon = 111p

So what will is say? I'm using fuel, and covering no distance - there is only one option.

It will be burning fuel but not going anywhere.

How would it still read 0 lol

10 gallons per hour means it gets through 10 gallons of fuel an hour, regardless of whether the car is moving or not

Oh per hour. With you. Still....dependent on the implementation of the on board computer I guess (whether or not the display does change).

Unless my fuel gauge is dodgy :(

This is the most likely problem, along with a HGF for good measure :p

EDIT: Andy, OT but my xorst is arriving in a few weeks :D
EDIT AGAIN: If I can I'll get it and have it fitted intime for the 12th (unlikely but I'll try) :D

same as me never got below 23 even with 7k rpm hoonages!

ZS 180. 2.5L V6 which are known to be thirsty from day to day usage...

The car had the light on, I put £15 of fuel in absolutely bombed it back to my flat through the lanes I know very well and when I pulled up outside the flat the light was on again. I sat there for a few minutes to see if the gauge would go back up and it didn't.

thats probably about as accurate as the speedo on a Vauxhall Nova with 22 inch rims! :p

About 8 years ago my dad used to drive what was then a 6 - 7 year old Jaguar XJS with a V12 engine. When you pressed the 'Sport' button and floored it, the digital (albeit inaccurate) MPG reading went down to 1, flickering between that and 0

Once he started a long motorway commute, he had to avoid financial ruin by selling it.

This is a pretty crap thread as most people will post the lowest they've got on the instantaneous readout. Those that don't will lie to get internet cool points.

3mpg, over a sustained period of time, from a 2.5 V6? That's completely crap, the Lambourghini Mercialago got 3mpg whilst being caned by The Stig around the TG Test Track. If you honestly expect me to believe you've had a proper average of 3mpg then you can forget it.

The lowest I've got over a tank is 19.7mpg.

Edit: I've just read how you worked out your MPG. As I suspceted then, completely ridiculous and not at all accurate. You can't measure fuel consumption based on how many miles you can do between the light coming on.

lowest I've noticed is 6.8mpg planting the foot in 3rd gear, will need to try it in second

never really paid attention to my minimum average, alway keep it on live
