Lucid Dreams,

I use to have those paralysis dreams where your in your room have the presence and everything and they sit on your chest etc, except I was aware that they were dreams so I didnt attempt to move my body, but I was able to move sometimes, not by moving my physical body, I knew that I was not moving my physical body.

The presence was female, you can guess what happened although not everything went my way. Some of it very freaky and I cant describe the stuff, but they did make me wonder if there isnt an after life and ghosts, but it being a dream does leave doubt.

I was wondering how common they are for other people?

I had one the other night after reading an article about lucid dreams (after not having one for a few years)..

In the dream I tested out lots of things to see how real everything was, tapping objects to see how they felt, dropping an object to see if it broke and how the sharp edges felt etc..

everything seemed real except I opened several books but was unable to read the text... and the area I was in I was unable to leave it just kept repeating.

or maybe I jsut had a dream in which i did everything I would do if I had a lucid dream?

do other people have regular lucid dreams? does everyone have them?

Been having them most nights for a month or so now. I wake up feeling like I have run a marathon and can remember big chunks of the dreams. Really weird but got a lot of **** going on in my life and being the wrong side of an ideal BMI won't help I am sure.

Had to look on Wikipedia what a lucid dream was, and found it a very interesting subject!

Seems like it would be awesome, especially if you could manipulate the bad dreams, or even better, make the good one's better! :p

Saying that, I rarely remember any dreams at all :(

I think thats the other way round (almost), you were awake but your brain had not turned your body back on, so you are unable to move... Its suppsoed to be very scary (never had it happen myself)

I use to have those paralysis dreams
I think that is more similar to an out of body experience.

I've had low level lucid dreams where I've become aware that I'm dreaming (and woken shortly afterwards) but not enough to completely control the dreams. I've also had dream control a number of times when I've been able to control what's happening in the dreams without actually realising that I'm dreaming. Need to work on having some proper lucid dreams :).

I've never had one but I've had two dreams where I did managed to "ask the question" if I was dreaming during them.

The first time, I realised I was dreaming and panicked myself awake. Was bummed about that one.

Second time, I asked the question and concluded the dream was real so didn't take control of it. Idiot!

I used to get sleep paralysis all the time when I was clubbing heavily, horrible thing!

As for lucid shizzle, never had the pleasure, though I think if I managed it, it would just be a single recurring one.

Involving Jessica Alba and Natalie Portman.

When I was a kid I used to wake myself up if I was having a nightmare....never really put two and two together at that age that I must have realised I was dreaming. Then I had a couple of dreams where I got up out of bed in the morning and things seemed a bit odd and not right. In the one I remember most clearly I asked my mum "is this is a dream?" and she said "Of course it is" and from then on I realised I could become conciouss in dreams and had many many more over the years.

I have since read books on the subject and talked to friends who have had the same experiences and tried many experiments and different things within dreams. I can honestly say that the brain is far far more strange and poweful than we get to experience in waking life. Some of the greatest things I have experinced in my life happened when lucid dreaming, next time your in once go and have a conversation with your subconcious.

A word of warning though....on at least 3 occasions I have gone so deep into lucidity that each time i woke up from a dream i was in another dream. This happened so many times once that I believed that my physical body had actually died and that I was now perminatly trapped in the dream world / afterlife. I have never ever been so releived to finally wake up propperly...

I've also had sleep paralysis a couple of times when there has been a sense of utter dred in the air and a pressence coming closer and closer towards the room / bed....I've always woken up before it got to me though.

Lucid dreaming is amazing, it's something everyone should learn to do....

The thing is I could see more of my room more than I would if I could just see through my eyes. I was aware of what the day was like outside, I would know before fully waking if it was sunny or overcast. Although I'm not saying I saw my room, perhaps I imagined my room, but not the light that was going through my closed eyelids.

I was scared the first few times, it happened so many times I just got used to it. Afterwards I would wake up so tired, as if my body was drained of energy.

Thats what I thought it was although I'm sceptical now.

I've also had sleep paralysis when I had glangular fever, I would wake up and be concious but could not love a muscle. First time I freaked out and thought I was dying, but you just shut your eyes and wake up property 5 minutes later.

Lucid dreams are awesome, I remember specially the first thing I did was fly before having a threesome.... plug me into the matrix for the rest of my life!

I'm pretty sure i've never had a lucid dream but after reading about some of them here I deffo want one.

My dreams are pretty bog standard, being chased by someone/something but don't know why, trapped in a room of my house or lost something or someone important and shouting out their name is useless or really quiet. I also have dreams about things I'm interested in, for instance F1 where I would be either driving the car, fixing the car or watching my favourite driver win the championship. I'm certainly not aware that it's a dream.

The worst dream I ever had (probably because I'm Scottish) was when I had just taken out a whole load of cash from an atm in Glasgow, nip round to the same shop I go to in the morning before college for a sandwich, put my hand in my pocked for my wallet and nothing is there. The sheer terror of losing loads of money in the dream is so real and frightening that it wakes me up in such a panic I jump out of bed to check the drawer where I keep it to make sure its there. It feels so real :( had it about 4-5 times in the last year.

Been reading up on this and have some questions.

Say your having a dream and your aware of it, but not aware your dreaming (lucid?) how do you get to the point of asking the question "am i dreaming" then the test e.g, look at watch, look at hands, look at the world in general.

Can't work out how you would even get to the point of finding out its a dream without having control of the dream, I thought control came after you are aware that its a dream, chicken and egg.

Or is it having the reality tests drilled into me during awake time so i'll auto do it in dream mode?

Before this thread I didnt even know you could control dreams like this so i kind of already feel i have a better chance just by telling myself i can do it.

Gonna try some early waking and then back to sleep and napping this weekend.

From the two times I've had seen a "trigger" and asked the question - the one I remember was when I was in my kitchen, looked at the microwave and it saying 14:00 but when I looked out the window it was pitch black and when I saw the moon it seemed to cause the trigger.

From what I've read the moon is a quite common trigger.

It's not an easy thing to do for most though. I've not tried properly in years.

Even when I was trying I managed to ask the question once and then managed to wake myself up straight away. /facepalm

"Night Terrors" and yes i do get them sometimes, they are scary as hell, even if you know that its your brain not being awake yet it doesnt matter, it is the same thing as being awake to you... i mean not just looking realitic but everything is real, you even FEEL it happening to you!

I have them often, but I think they are overrated. since I already know that I am dreaming.

Strange use of the term "overrated".

What makes you trigger? What is your understanding of what a Lucid Dream is?

Many posts here don't seem to be lucid dreams but just regular ones.

Just randomly pinch yourself during the day asking if you're awake. Eventually you'll do it in your sleep. Or another that works for me is just thinking about lucid dreams while i'm awake, then I think of them when I sleep =)

Man this sounds amazing. gonna try and learn some techniques i think.

I hardly ever remember my dreams, i just go to sleep then its morning again. also someone mentioned waking up like 5-10 mins before their alarm is set to go off, i also do this. i think from working full time you get up this time most days and after a while your brain is trained to wake you.

I think training your brain to lucid dream is going to be hard work. maybe have a tab of acid before bed ? lol

Yes, i've started testing myself today as much as I remember so hopefully it will start to rub off on sleepy hank, plus going to start a diary and do some waking up/napping stuff.
