Totally awesome - this beast will be high up on my list of 'next car' in a few years time. That engine is just totally insane :eek: !


Edit - does anyone know the torque figure for the engine - is it higher than the M5's (edited again - hmm, I think 560Nm might well be higher..)? The power figure seems to be closing in on the 335i.

Really hoping BMW can sort out a manual gearbox which is capable of handling the torque. At £35k though, it's nearing M3 money.

Did not know that BMW is going to have a 4 litre diesel - I can imagine that the output of that will be phenomenal. Certainly V8 petrol beating...

Diesel still sucks. I don't care if it has a million torques, a diesel will never be able to rev. Screaming to the redline is one of the characteristics of a performance petrol that a diesel will never be able to replicate.
 
And what a surprise - the configurator only has an auto 'box available just like the 535d. Hey Oracle, any comment on that?

The BMW 6-cylinder diesels sound nowhere near as cluttery as a normal 4-pot POS diesel from any other manufacturer. They don't judder on idle, and on full chat, sound rather beefy. And this is coming from a petrol-head!

thats what i think, one of my mates at uni has a 330d (rich folks) and when he gives it some welly i reckon it sounds better then the 330i as its more grunty :cool:

M5 = 520Nm

yep i beilve its first going into the 7 series and will also go into the 5 series! lets hope it goes to the 3 series ...... Goodbye Mr RS4 muwhahahaha :D.

A lot of people I talk to seem to get excited by the torque a diesel engine produces, and they all wonder why I don't feel the same way....






....right up until they see what the Olds has stuffed in the front end. I've gotten a bit too used to medium-to-large displacement pushrod V8s to be bowled away by a straight-six diesel, even one with a pair of turbos bolted up to it. I will concede that they do make sense though - reasonable power output, large amounts of torque, and reasonable fuel economy when loafing along. BMW quoted the average FC a while back in development as around 37mpg, did they stick to that?

Pretty decent. I can see them selling well on the continent, with diesel prices (in France and Italy certainly, not seen what the Germans are charging for it) being a little bit lower than over here.

gets the 7 series to 60 in 6.6 seconds that things hauls ass :eek:

those BMW diesels can really move! my dads 730d gets him to 60 in 7.1 i think :D
