Lulzsec!

I really wish people would stop with the "They are highlighting the lack of security bla bla blah crusaders for internet security bla bla bla".

Look, that may be the case but it is a fortunate side effect and nothing more, if that is really what they wanted to do they wouldn't be stealing hundreds of thousands of users personal information and releasing it and pulling down services people pay for.

They are a bunch of ass holes who want to feel big and strong, they are breaking laws and personally damaging completely innocent people, I hope they are all caught and get the **** kicked out of them in the process.

League of Legends be aware

I actually feel kinda sorry for them now, thats scraping the barrel and making them look like laughing stock even bothering with something like that, kind of an own goal at best.

Not exactly what I'd call titanic.

Forgive me my ignorance, I'm not a web-hosting guru.

Does this mean some websites were upgrading Apache immediately as a new version was released, without any probation period?

The company I work for is very conservative with IT (we're still running XP), and wouldn't dream of updating to the latest version of any software the day the update was released...

Quite the opposite, zero-day is an attack on a newly found exploit before anyone know it is there, there is no patch and no defence. It's like Daniel-San and crane kick attack, no possible defence.

Same here Rroff, kinda sad but I think it was because someone phoned them up and asked them to do it. Then they did it..

Seems like they have stopped now, probably before they get too over themselves and do something stupid

Bit late for that, what they've done already today will get anyone caught jail time.

Massive assumptions and generalizations going on in this thread. How do you know they were bullied, are virgins and have no girlfriends or social skills?

Come on, it's highly likely, isn't it? Clearly they have no social skills....and I very much doubt they're involved in any kind of relationship. Of course I don't know for sure, but I'd take a pretty sizable bet on it.

Considering the number of webservers running Apache this is a pretty serious exploit they have, if true. 0 day exploits are rarely chanced upon by the unskilled. Considering they are apparently taking data it appears this exploit also gives them high level, if not root, access. A scary thought.

Yeah the longer it goes on the easier it is to narrow down who is behind it, the targets don't need to do anything other than cooperate with law enforcement tho.

There are also tools in use now tho that can narrow down who is behind it and give other avenues for investigation skipping steps in the normal following bread cumbs back, so unless they are outside of the reach of the likes of interpol I suspect some of them will be facing the law soon enough.

The thing is they are most probably a geo-distributed hacking network. This makes prosecution difficult in itself. If they found the exploit then they clearly have some capability, which will slow any tracking progress. If they are structured into cells then stopping some of them won't be enough.

I think there is a clear Apache 0-day exploit in effect and also some SQL injection techniques are being used. I thought Anonymous were generally the DDOSing type, but now LulSec are at it. There has been heavy activity Internationaly with regard to bringing down members of anonymous though. There have been arrests in Turkey, UK, Australia, US and Holland. I think if this is based around a big 0-dayer on Apache, eventually it will become public as members of the group braek away and/or do the right thing and publish it, or there is some sort of conflict within the group and it comes to light. They may be smaller than people think as a group so as to keep this private.

I doubt they came up with it themselves, someone like Luigi Auriemma probably published a proof of concept or similiar but no one took them seriously, someone else probably played around with it a bit more and published more privately a semi working version and this group put it into practise.

Perhaps everyone should stop talking about them, stop reading their twitter and just generally ignore them like you do with all annoying little ******* and they'll either disappear or try something so immense that they screw up.

I'd like to hope so, but either way: a) they have it, b) they know how to use it, c) are using it on anyone they can and d) don't seem to have any intention of giving it up.

lol they are taunting 4chan now... not really a smart move - what they lack in technical ability they make up for with social networking :S (unless they are infact a splinter of /b/ obfusicating).

EDIT: Seems its not so unrelated.

Yeah I thought it a bit strange... escapist is everything lulzsec claims to be but isn't (all about fun), minecraft ditto, league of legends never hurt anyone, eve online well I guess someone got ganked and rage quit... most clown like "hacking" fail I've ever seen.

Seriously, why did it have to be Eve. :(

They're like the Joker out of batman but not awesome.

I think the funniest part is that the eve lot don't really care! They understand what ccp have done and why and support them for it, probably not the reaction that nobsex where after.

I must say, I would love to of seen it happen to the WoW servers :D

I can just imagine some of the lads I work with raging at the screen :D
