Luton airport...

The multi storey car park structure has apparently now collapsed. If the fire starter was indeed an EV the resulting release of toxic fumes and the economic and environmental costs have undone a lot of the so called benefits of these vehicles.

There was a point where they were banned from some multi storey car parks because of the perceived fire risk. It will be interesting to see if the cause can be ascertained, and if it is indeed a battery car what action is taken and what the insurance implications will be going forward. The costs of this fire will be huge.

Gosh that didn’t take long. Literally no one knows what started the fire.
Even if it wasn't stared by an EV or hybrid, you can bet it spread fast because of them.

Nothing to do with the huge amount of very flammable hydrocarbons (including plastic) which exist in the vast majority of cars then?

The recent car carrier fire which was fully blamed on electric cars spontaneously combusting was found to have nothing to do with electric cars and actually most of the electric cars were on other decks and undamaged.

with modern cars wider&longer than predecessors, they'd be closer, which allows fire to spread faster ... was sprinkler system working

I think that's the car park above the ground floor level drop off.

Should be fun for accessing the airport in the coming months.

Or you could take out a mortgage to take the DART :D

Seems similar to the Liverpool car park fire.

Not sure why people would jump to the conclusion of it being an EV. Even if it was, statistically even with an equal distribution of vehicles it would be an ICE as they are much more likely to catch fire.

Not spontaneously, IC cars very very rarely catch fire when they're just sat parked. This seems to be EVs forte

EV was my first thought, but it's not like pure ICE cars never catch fire is it? My money is still more on some kind of vehicle fault than deliberate arson.

Absolutely 100%, imagine being in one of those criminal gangs and setting fire to Luton airport car park.

You'd never live it down, you could burn down a phone box and get more cred!

I mean, it's happened to at least two people I know personally, so I'm unconvinced very very rarely is correct (but anecdotal data, etc). EVs are also not just bursting into flames here, there, and everywhere.

There are a lot of carparks in the world, even very very rare events will happen given long timescales and large numbers.
