Lying on an internet forum?

We had one of the members of the SETI forum pretend to die. His name escapes me at the minute but I think it was around 2001/2002. I'd know it if I seen it.

Any of the oldies know who I'm talking about?

i once faked my death in a alt.games.half-life.counterstrike newsgroup...... :o :(

Ive recently has a guy off these Forums add me to MSN, after about 15mins convo with him I discovered the only reason he added me was because he didnt beleive id just bought a new computer, and wanted to trick me into admitting i hadnt

There are some weird folk about, why lie to folk youve never met and are never likely to meet? To earn respect, sympathy, friends? some folk need to step away from their keyboards and get outside into the real world.

As such, I usually fall for these things totally, I though Harley was a decent genuine bloke, tbh.

When/where was it decided that he wasn't/isn't?

Ontopic I can only agree with most people in the thread, I really don't see the point in lying about something you have done or own, particularly (in most cases) to a bunch of people you have never met/will meet.

I was just saying several folk have brought his name up in this thread and I dont think he is a liar. I suppose me using the word thought is wrong, what i mean is "I think Harley is a decent genuine bloke, tbh"

What clinched the Harley saga for me was a 9/11 Pentagon thread, where he said he was in Arlington Cemetery watching the plane hit the Pentagon. That's just far too far-fetched and coincidental to be true.

That and the "I met Michael Jackson", "I own loads of shares in Microsoft" and so on, it's like Forrest Gump online.

do any of you also think it's amazing how many small details we know about people we've never even met?

weird but not necessarily in a bad way.
That's very true. I probably know as much about some forum members as I knew about my nan and I knew her for 35yrs.

On topic, Why does anyone feel the need to lie to people that they don't actually know. Whats the point in that? Everyone tells lie to some extent but, usually just to cover up like when you go home early and tell the boss that the traffic was really bad so you went home instead of returning to the office or something.

I remember a kid at school that had 6 days off one year because he was attending his grandads funerals. :p

Richdog is a regular on here mate.

But why would he be so desperate to prove that he had a girlfriend to strangers on an internet forum that he even nicked a photo from face party? It's bizarre.

If it wasn't the fact that said faceparty member was a shemale he might even have fooled everyone :D
