Stig was comedy gold for his outlandish claims though and I never felt he was trying to be overly serious.

Salvatore-Human Torch-Oracle-[RaGe] still has to be the greatest effort though.

Not from here, but on the Anandtech forums (when I posted there and before I posted here) there was a guy called Dennilfloss.

It was posted up on The Register - that states better than I could post!

That's the biggest one I've personally witnessed.

hehe, that one was a comic genius! lol :D

Aye, he did it on purpose, although i am not so sure about the car one. The GF sig was created after the women of world cup 2006 thread. Thats where he got it from. He jokingly said that it was his wife. :D

Actually, that's not quite what I said.

You'd said there were rumours to that effect, and what I said was that I'd previously said (as in previous to that thread, not earlier in it) all I was going to say on the subject, since every time I comment on it, people either don't believe me, or it dies down to surface again a couple of weeks later ..... with tedious regularity.

I don't know whether the threads still exist or not (and can't be bothered to search), but early in my membership here, I responded to questions about these rumours several times, and it didn't make any difference to what 'the forum' thought. Some people are convinced one way, some the other, some don't know for sure and, I rather suspect, the great majority don't give a toss either way.

So to be clear, I didn't deny it and I didn't confirm it. I just declined to comment. Moreover, this should not be taken as a comment either way, but simply a clarification of what I said to you, as it seems you may have misinterpreted it.

For the record, anything I'm going to say has already been said, and I won't be expanding on it. Also for the record, why does anyone care?

I remember a poster called Harley from my lurking days. He was very helpful on legal and business matters, but some of what he claimed seemed a bit far-fetched:

  • Owned multiple properties in the UK
  • Lived in California
  • Had met Michael Jackson and been to Neverland
  • Had met Tom Cruise
  • Had owned many sports cars including a DB9 I believe
  • Charged £2000 per hour for consultancy on whatever he did

I suppose this all could be true, but you have to wonder why somebody with all that would bother posting on an internet forum so much.

I seem to remember he left when somebody called all of that into question.

I remember Harley, he seems like a pretty intelligent bloke. He knew a lot about finance/ business, and didnt seem to come across as a lier, but the claims above do seem a little far fetched!

LOL, that settles that then:p
*resists urge to post freakishly coincidental posts* :p /conspiracy :D

I suppose there is some kind of appeal in taking advantage of the anonymity of internet forums to creat an online persona which is how you'd like to be in real life, even if you are totally different actually in real life, or alternatively to see how well the persona is received by the forum members as an experiment. Probably some interesting psychological reasons but on the other hand it's probably just pure curiousity. :)

Just to put that in context, suppose Harley was involved in the film industry. It's not beyond possibility that he lived in California, had met Jackson and Cruise (and may have been to their homes), and if you've every been round the more upmarket property areas of several Californian cities, you'd have seen that cars of the DB9 category aren't exactly rare. As for £2000/hour consultancy, my first question would be "consultancy on what?", and the second would be "Did he say that or, like in this thread, is it a misinterpretation (or mis-remembering) of what was said?"

Properties in the UK? Not beyond reason. I did, after all.

If you take those facts individually, it looks highly improbable. But if you look at what would account for one, it may equally well account for the others as well. Assuming Harley said those things, what you need to think about is what may be behind them, otherwise you're judging the symptoms, not the cause. In other words, what you have to decide the credibility of is what led to those things, not those things themselves. Of course, the "cause" may still be bullpoop. :D

I remember when I first joined I was talking to another member on MSM & we were talking about famous people & I told him who my mum & dad were, he didn't believe me so I sent him a couple of family pics but he still didn't believe me & said I had chopped them
He kept calling me a liar & starting telling other people I was lying too so I invited him to my house (don't live with my parents) to prove it. He was gobsmacked when he came & saw all the family pics of me when I was a kid on film sets with dad & at fashion shows with mum etc. I won't say their names on here but if I say 'are you feeling lucky punk' & skinny 60's model you should be able to work out who they are.
The member is still on here & we are still good friends & as far as I'm aware he hasn't told anyone else, top bloke:)
