Im going to be building a mate of mine quite a high performance office machine with a i5 2500k and 8gb of mem, bit of a overkill but that what he wants. He has never had a good performing pc before, and Ive mentioned about ssds to him and how there sooo much faster then hdds and will make your computing experience so much nicer.

He now wants 1 but am I doing the right thing as ssd's can be a pain and fail more then hdds? I Im going to get him a 500gb or 1tb hdd aswel for storage and Ive told him that he will only will be able to install applications on the ssd and personal data on the hdd. Also I will tell him about not defragging or formatting before I order the stuff then he can say yeah or na about the ssd. What are your thoughts?

The M4 is very reliable as long as you update the firmware to the latest version, I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. Run the WEI and Windows 7 will disable automatic defragging on the SSD anyway so you won't need to worry about that. TRIM will be enabled so you don't need to worry about asking him to run anything manually.
I put an Agility 30GB in my aunt's laptop and my other aunt's desktop, they're absolutely terrible with computers and they're still working fine, I don't think you have much to worry about at all.

Also are the M4's the same as the vertex 2e's, as in they require a secure erase before every restore or install of windows and do you have to use Crucial's software todo this, or will parted magic do the job?

if you get a 64GB SSD to use as a cache drive instead then reliability wont be an issue, if it fails then it just means the system will go back to using the normal drive for everything instead.

Got my M4 the other day. Well happy with it.

Boot times are amazing as are shutdowns. Things open up promptly.

Went back to using brothers laptop (Which spec wise is decent) couldnt believe how long it took to load things!

Hi guys, Ive built this pc for my mate and windows is flying as it boots up like in 3-4 secs, but does these speeds look right for the m4 128gb ssd. The board only supports 3gb sata btw.......

It's on 000F, it says in the AS SSD pic above^^^

SATA II is limiting the drive, but whether or not your mate would notice the difference between II and III is debatable.

If the motherboard has III, then install again on that, otherwise I'd leave it as it is tbh; still a huge boost over a normal hard drive

Yeah Ive updated it to the latest firmware

The motherboard doesn't support 6gb sata, only 3gb sata,, and my mate is used to waiting 5mins for the computer to boot, so it will be 1 hell of a performance boost even without the ssd going full speed
