M4 Vs Corsair

Just seen this thread M4 SSD 5200 hour timebomb

I had bought a Vertex 3 last June but returned it as they where having problems.

Perhaps I should wait and see what happens.

edit: see it was mentioned earlier in this thread, missed it somehow

it also said it would be fixed on the 16th jan with a firmware flash
did you miss that to mike? :) :p

No I didn't miss that. :p

Hence why I said

That's based on OCZ bring out umpteen firmware releases for the Vertex 3 which didn't fix the problem(s) (at the time) and why I returned it.

M4 customers,

We are aware of an issue that is currently affecting a small number of users whereby their m4 causes their system to require a restart. This issue occurs after approximately 5,000 hours of actual “on time” use. Following the initial reboot, the system then requires subsequent restarts after each additional hour of use. However, the data on the SSD is unaffected and will not be lost due to this condition.

Through our investigation, we have determined the root cause of the problem and will be releasing a firmware update that rectifies the situation. We are currently running through our validation and compatibility process. Once this process is complete, the firmware will be made available to our customers. Although we understand the desire of some people to start using unreleased firmware now, we want to ensure that our solution works across multiple chipsets, systems, and operating systems before publishing the release code. We are currently targeting the week of January 16th, 2012 to publicly release the new firmware update.

We understand the impact that this is having on some users right now and apologize for this inconvenience. We appreciate your continued support, feedback, and patience as we finalize code and resolve this issue.

Did you buy it from 'the other place'. I see stock is down to 406. Sold 6 in the last 6 1/2 hours.

I did indeed. I buy a lot of stuff from there without issue, never hesitated. Delivery isn't until Tuesday which is kind of annoying. I'm away for the weekend anyway, so isn't too big of a deal.

Way i justify it was the time i save booting up etc, i could get a second job therefore over time it will pay for itself :p

Sounds like a plan to me. What was Andrew Moore on about with regards to selling at such low cost? He doesn't understand how they can sell so cheap?

That's what I initially thought, then I thought... "nah can't be." So thought I'd ask.

Surely a company like that isn't stupid enough to lose money, are they?

Maybe. :p

Supposing they managed to buy the current stock at a price below what they are currently selling for (taking VAT into account) then they are offering a good deal for their customers and still making money. When they restock then they will have to put the price up considerably unless they are crazy and want to make a loss. I'd imagine the margins are quite small tho.

No i dont think so, they are probably making a smaller profit, quanity of units sold makes up for larger profit, same net effect i guess
