M6 wrong-way lorry driver jailed

I would have thought the guys would have been rewarded more than £250... Considering they risked their own lives, and possibly saved others.

Must admit, I have never before heard of a court of law issuing a reward for anything.
Is this paid as expenses by the chap who commits the offense?

It's done occasionally at the judge's discretion - I've seen it awarded to people who stop attacks on other people. AFAIK the upper limit is pretty low, hence only £250 given out. It comes out of court funds AFAIK, not from the guilty party.

Lifetime ban i would have said. The potential for death was very very high.
If you are lucid enough to drive a hgv you are lucid enough to realise you are going the wrong way..feel there is more to this than alxohol

What the **** has watching a Grand Prix got to do with it??

Nothing.

It was all the brandy he drunk during it that had everything to do with it.

He must have been properly out of it though, as even once you've turned onto the wrong carriageway you'd then either stop or drive along on one of the sides (wrong way in the fast lane by the central reservation, or wrong way down the hard shoulder)... but he was driving the wrong way down the middle lane!

Those three truckers that blocked all three lanes and stopped him were pretty brave though! Whilst they were in a lorry themselves, he still had 44ton of momentum coming at them and in a lorry you haven't even got a bonnet in front of you! Guess they were on the CB Radios to each other or something to arrange it?

The award was a nice gesture but the sum of money is a pittance. Lawyers get that much as an hourly rate for sitting safely behind a desk.

I certainly wouldn't have liked to play chicken with a 44ton truck.

i was driving south on the M6 toll on Thursday when the cars in front of me starting swerving into the slow lane. There was some old giffer in an old fiesta with his wife in the passenger seat driving the wrong way up the fast lane
scared the life out of me .. luckily i was in the middle lane at the time

I LOLled at this comment on the Sun's page.

I agree with what others said about the £250 reward, although I think that they should have got £1k each, and that it came out of the Hungarian's bank account, not from the HM courts funds.
