Mac users' elitism

Not at all, but it wouldn't be unlikely that god forbid, a problem would be fixed in an update.
With Apple it would be unlikely - the problem has existed for six years and it could probably be fixed in five minutes if they wanted to.

I think MS Office for Mac is vastly superior to MS Office XP (2003), but then thats just personal preference. I find it runs a bit slow through Rosetta, but if it were universal binary I am sure I would love it long time with no reservations whatosever.

Games... a problem, yes. Not necessarily a fault on Apple's part, as far as my (limited, I'll admit) understanding of the issue stretches. But a MacBook isn't exactly going to be a hardcore gaming machine anyway, is it? The same goes for upgradeability. With a MacBook you can upgrade the RAM and hard drive, and that is pretty much all you will be able to upgrade yourself on any other laptop out there. I think the MacBook is definitely the star of the Apple mac line-up in that respect :)

The Macbook wouldn't be a gaming machine, it is reasonable to use a iMac/Powermac for gaming, but the iMac has integrated graphics (so no upgrading) and the Powermac's have some strange extra connector on all their graphics cards, so I doubt you could plug a normal graphics card into it.

I do agree that the Macbooks are Apple's ace though, probably the best laptop out there, and the only laptop I would consider buying.

What programs does it lack?

Well Office:Mac only has Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage. Office has access, Infopath, frontpage, mappoint, visio, photo editor, project, publisher, onenote, communicator, interconnect etc.

This thread is moving fast :o

The funny thing i find with Office for Mac is that it looks so much better than the Windows version :D

It's unknown to me since I've never seen anyone complaining of it or have never experienced it, so it seems like a non-issue to me.

So I don't care. ;)

I agree. I've only ever heard DD talk about it lol.

I can see the difference because I regularly switch between OSX and Windows but i've never had a problem clicking things lol and I don't know anyone personally that has.

My iMac has a large screen and when I boot into Windows it's a bit of a chore moving the pointer the width of the screen. Especially because Windows automatically resizes windows to fit the screen. Which is annyoing.

That's rich, you're saying MS are better?

Roflsocks.

I seriously do hate your guts, so I'm going to leave this thread.
I'm not aware of any such problems with Windows which MS have failed to fix, unless you know differently? :) Certainly not mouse acceleration which has been fully customisable in Windows for about the last 12 years... and I bet OS 10.5 won't fix it either.

Oh and MS at least don't charge you extra $$$ just for the privilege of running the built-in media player full screen, like with Quicktime and Apple.

...and Outlook is replaced by Entourage, also the interface is different.
Entourage is the same as Outlook as far as I can tell. I set it up today with my three email accounts and my rules. Are there any differences? The user interface is only different as it's Macy - to any Mac user it's pretty normal.

typical problem I have with Macs: work mate has a MacBook pro with swiss keyboard.

To type a / you have to press 3 different keys. Something like Ctrl + Apple + 7.

That is just stupid. This isn't a swiss keyboard problem. In wondows it is just shift + 7. In linux I quickly re-mapped a key the Umlou key as I don't speak german.

The other things, getting quick time to play full screen is expensive!
Indeed, getting any application to run Fullscreen is a nightmare. So much desktop wasted wiht the huge application bar at the bottom with stupid annoyign bouncing icons (luckilly you can turn them off).

All the useful power tools and command-line apps are completely hidden and are all a long way out of date and impossible to update.

Both PCs & Macs have their strengths & weaknesses. Neither is better or worse than the other. Those who think otherwise are close minded, elitest & ignorent imo.

I think that quote about sums this thread for me.

Errrr no. That's with the Enterprise Edition and I dread to think how much that costs. Not to mention it's the newest office suite which doesn't have a competitor on Mac yet.

Think about comparing the 2003 version with comparable pricing.

On a UK keyboard yes. Swiss keyboards are different because of the need for both french and german characters (and italian).

But it is a problem that is really just Mac Specific my IBM thinkpad with swiss keyboard in either linux or windows is much easier to get a /

Playing a DVD on a Windows PC is expensive too. And not many people will need to run a video clip at full screen. It would look terrible unless you have downloaded a high resolution clip which is unlikely atm.

I do wish Apple would let it go fullscreen though, at least to buyers of Mac's.

The application bar can be removed btw. Something you would know if you spent more than 10 minutes with one.

Fair enough. I only have experience with UK ones.
