Mac users' elitism

once you've owned a mac you will understand.... until that point you can even begin to comprehend!

Ah yeah but all apple owners like style over substance. Macs, ipods.... ;)

Apple products are the smart and hybrid cars of the electrical world. PC's are the Landrovers and BMWs of the world, I.e. they're useful! :p

Nonsense. Each have their benefits and personally I find the Mac gui far better and the interaction with the applications much better and more useful than the PC. Personal preference at the end of the day.

I think the demand for pretty looking computers is being overestimated here. Most people I know just have a Dell shoved on a cheap table in the corner of their lounge and don't care what it looks like as long as its cheap and works. If this wasn't the case then Apple's market share would be larger that it's current, almost insignificant, value.

Many, many American's use Apple Macs. Most of the people I've visited in the states have a mac rather than a PC and in the creative/media/design industry on both sides of the Atlantic every office is stuffed full of them. Most of the people I know in the UK prefer Macs to PCs as they become accustomed to them and they are certainly gaining in popularity every year.

Of course there are people who will prefer the PC, but I really don't understand this PC v Macs brigade or the vice versa. Does it really matter as long as you're happy with what you're using?

If you ask me, it's most PC users that have the superiority complex, or usually start the debates by being downright horrible about Macs.

 do you think that all of us underwhelmed with Macs haven't tried them?

It takes at least a week to get to grips with a mac and learn all it's little tricks etc imo, using one in a shop or a mates etc usually will leave you underwhelmed since you have no idea what you're doing, or what the mac can do.

It's a different world, really...

You end up spending half of your time in Starbucks branches surfing the Internet wirelessly, you start taking care of your appearance, you become twice as productive as before, carry £10m in your back pocket (VC money for that 'Web 2.0' start-up you're about to launch), maintain sixteen weblogs and two vlogs, and women throw themselves at you.

Those poor old Windows users just don't understand ;)

lol and i bet you could use your PC when you came out of the womb eh? :p

You're right though, you need to live with one to appreciate them and find out just why they're so awesome :)

How can 'Mac hardware' be better? It's industry standard PC hardware nowadays.

I knew somebody would come out with that crap.
No doubt you have an alternative to an IPOD and obviously think you're superior.

Yep Macs are certainly more common in the US where at something like 5% their market share is about twice that of their global average. So I would say insignificant is fairly accurate.

That makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever.

yes it does - you said it takes a week to learn how to use it. I read it that you were saying that it was harder to learn than a PC. But people have to learn how to use PC's too, it's not just something they can do naturally when they're born.

I've edited the post anyway to make more sense :)

When you say 'prefer the PC' you mean Windows of course, seeing as Macs are PCs now, to all intents and purposes :) Not to mention that PCs also run Linux and BSD etc. FWIW yes, I do prefer Windows XP to Mac OS X.

it just the little things like i said... magnetic power connector.. magnetic lid...power adapter that can take 3 different cables and winds up on its self...etc etc... makes a huge difference in real life

As a Graphic Design student I have to use macs. After a year and a half on the course all I can say is that I love them!

After having to do another format yesterday on my pc because windows decided it didn't want to work any more I've given up, that was the final straw. The only thing making me want to even keep my pc is to play games on (which I don't have any time to do any more any way). The next computer purchase I make is going to be a mac without a shadow of a doubt.
