Mac vs PC

Same here. A MAC does absolutley nothing that I require it to do. Apart from emails and internet.

I have a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Both do something that the other can't but they both do it to the same things; clothes.

I have no idea where I was going with that analogy but it seemed good in my head :p

What do you do when your professional work requires 3DS Max?

That wasn't really the point, and it's still running Windows.

I know Maya has a mac version, but it's on Windows too and not everyone uses Maya. I said it because I still can't understand the mentality of people who claim "Macs are for creative work" in way that implies you can't do the same on a Windows PC. Windows has the whole Adobe and Autodesk Suite and they perform just fine on Windows, yet people still maintain you need a mac (from personal experience, I have met a lot of people who seemed to think you can only do graphic work on a Mac with Photoshop, despite the fact that there's a Windows and OSX version of Photoshop).

I can honestly say I wouldn't use an Apple Mac if I was given one for free.

I would, it’s just another version of the Unix OS. But I wouldn’t pay the expense for one.

But fair play to Apple and the way the running the computer market. They make customers think when they buy a Mac its more reliable than Windows...ok so it to a certain amount.

But unlike Microsoft, Apple sticks the users in a controlled environment and babysits them where they feel they can’t break anything. Unless Apple says so, you can’t install software or hardware unless it approved by them and them only. So of course it more reliable if you can’t do whatever you want because deep down Apple has control of what the users does with the Mac.

And why don’t most users go against Apple and freely install software or hardware not approved by them? Because they paid that much money for a Mac, they feel the need to obviously look after it. Out of fear if they do something wrong to the Mac it would be too expensive to go out and simply buy another one.

i have a macbook pro and a thinkpad, use thinkpad for more because all the software i use is only windows based, generally just use the macbook at home for browsing the web and downloading stuff, cant really fault it for that, and havent put it through its paces to give a better opinion but its done everything i have asked so far!

I like this post. I feel going out and spending £1500 on a computer and then havnig a **** load of restrictions put in place would annoy the hell out of me. But then i'm aware enough of what i'm installing unlike some of the people who's computers I look after go against what I say and just start installing any unreliable product and then ask me to fix it for them. More money for me I suppose.

Why do people think Macs are better for graphic work? Are Macs more powerful than PCs? Do they process graphics and animations better? I'm guessing the answer to both of these questions is "no" or "yes, a long time ago"?

Obviously if you feel like you want to fiddle, mess with the OS then a Mac isn't for you. Like i said many times before, Mac users don't really care about "oh, i can't install my copy of [insert proprietary Windows software here], chances are if you are using those software, you know a Mac won't be for you and will not get one. Because a windows base machine works for you. To use that excuse to diss Mac users is being a hypocrite.

Most of the population user use the internet, email and thats it. Facebook, Ebay, some music to sync their iPod, some digital photos here and there, type a letter or email here and there. The majority don't care about how much versatility of PC has in terms of flexibility of mods, OC, amount of software available. Why? They don't need them so they don't care.

Although i am sure if you are 1337 enough, you can mess with any OS. Rewrite all the coding and make it work, right? RIGHT!? :p

You are talking from a geek point of view.

A minority.

My point is that it doesn't really offer me anything that my PC doesn't already do better, so to keep it would be a little pointless.

A Burgatti Veron doesn't offer anything more than a Ford Fiesta does either?

You can't drive 200mph on our roads for a start, yet people still buy one.

If you live over a certain distance from an apple store, and has a iMac or mac pro and has their apple care, then yes, they will come to your house. Probably end up taking it away and returning it later but I still don't need to take it to them.

Is apple care like a warranty that comes with buying the mac? Or do you have to pay extra?

Not sure I see what you're getting at. What point are you making?

They both get you from A-B, both PC and Mac get your job done (surf the net, emails, etc).

Yet people still pay more for the Veyron, and the Mac.

So why are these PC lovers keep bringing up these Mac hate threads every few months? Do you ever see someone go into the windows forum and goes.

"My OSX poos on you lot from a great height!!!!"

I don't, do you?

Free if you are a student or work in HE (just buy it online). So yes, buy a iMac the day before you graduate, have 3 years of warranty on it, labour and parts and all. I know people who had a totally NEW iMac delivered to them after like 2 and a bit years after their screen failed.

Extra to pay if you are everyone else.
